Banking Authority Issues Alert on Fraudulent Notices Circulating on Social Media

The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) has issued an urgent warning to job seekers about fraudulent notices being circulated across social media platforms. According to an official statement, several individuals and organizations are falsely claiming affiliation with IBPS and disseminating misleading information to candidates preparing for banking examinations.

In its strongly worded advisory, IBPS emphasized that it has not authorized any external individuals, agents, or consultancies to participate in its recruitment or selection processes. The institute clarified that all official communications, application procedures, and examination results are exclusively published on its official website, ibps.in.

“We do not approve or endorse any person or organization for our activities or functions,” the institute stated in its notice. IBPS also highlighted that its name, logo, and associated symbols are registered trademarks, warning that unauthorized use will result in legal consequences.

The banking recruitment body has demanded that all unauthorized entities immediately cease using its name and identity. IBPS has also explicitly stated that it bears no responsibility for any financial loss or confusion that candidates may experience as a result of engaging with these fraudulent sources.

This warning comes at a critical time when thousands of aspirants across India are preparing for various banking sector examinations. The IBPS conducts standardized tests for recruitment to numerous public sector banks, playing a pivotal role in the financial sector’s human resource pipeline. Banking jobs remain highly sought after in India for their stability, compensation, and career advancement opportunities, making candidates particularly vulnerable to recruitment scams.

Recruitment fraud has become increasingly sophisticated in recent years, with scammers using social media platforms to target job seekers with convincing but fraudulent communications. These operations often request payments for guaranteed selection, offer shortcuts in the recruitment process, or claim to provide insider information about examinations.

Cybersecurity experts point out that such scams typically intensify during recruitment seasons, with fraudsters exploiting candidates’ anxieties about competitive examinations to extract money or personal information. The banking sector, given its prestige and the volume of applicants, has become a primary target for such operations.

In related news, IBPS has announced results for its Specialist Officer (SO) Preliminary Examination. Candidates who participated in this examination can now verify their qualification status by logging into the official website using their credentials. The SO Prelims examination was conducted on August 30, 2025, featuring 150 questions totaling 125 marks, with candidates given a two-hour timeframe to complete the test.

The institute has also indicated that results for the IBPS Probationary Officer (PO) Mains Examination will be released shortly. The PO examination is one of the most competitive banking recruitment processes in India, attracting hundreds of thousands of candidates annually for entry-level management positions in public sector banks.

IBPS has urged all candidates to remain vigilant and rely exclusively on information published on its official website to avoid falling victim to fraudulent schemes. Banking sector aspirants are advised to exercise caution regarding unsolicited communications claiming association with IBPS and to report suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities.

As digital fraud continues to evolve, regulatory bodies like IBPS face increasing challenges in protecting candidates from misinformation and scams that exploit their career aspirations.
