A 39-year-old man pleaded not guilty Friday to threatening former Prince Andrew near his residence on the royal family’s Sandringham estate, marking the latest chapter in the ongoing public scrutiny surrounding the disgraced royal.

Alex Jenkinson faces two counts of using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behavior – one directed at Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, as he is now known, during an incident on Wednesday, and another count involving a different man on Tuesday. The charges came after Andrew was allegedly confronted by a masked man while walking his dogs near his home.

According to police reports, officers responded to the scene and arrested Jenkinson “on suspicion of a public order offence and possession of an offensive weapon.” While Jenkinson denied the threatening behavior charges, he did plead guilty to failing to provide a blood specimen while in custody.

The Westminster Magistrates’ Court granted Jenkinson bail under strict conditions. He is prohibited from entering Norfolk county, must not attempt any contact with Andrew, and must maintain a distance of at least 500 meters from multiple royal properties including Sandringham, Buckingham Palace, Balmoral Castle, Windsor Castle, and Highgrove.

The former prince is expected to give evidence when the case goes to trial on July 29, potentially placing him in the uncomfortable position of public court testimony.

This incident represents yet another low point for Andrew, whose fall from grace has been precipitous and public. Last year, King Charles III stripped his brother of all royal titles due to his connections with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The decision came amid mounting criticism of Andrew’s association with Epstein and allegations of sexual misconduct.

Just three months ago, Andrew himself was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office connected to his Epstein ties and his previous role as the U.K. trade envoy, further cementing his pariah status within the royal family.

The former Duke of York has faced persistent allegations from Virginia Giuffre, who claimed she was forced to have sex with him on three occasions, beginning when she was 17 years old. While Andrew has consistently denied these accusations, he reached a settlement with Giuffre in 2022 over her civil sexual assault lawsuit. Tragically, Giuffre died by suicide in 2025, closing one chapter in the scandal but leaving Andrew’s reputation permanently tarnished.

The royal’s living situation has also reflected his diminished standing. Earlier this year, Andrew relocated to Sandringham after being asked to vacate his longtime residence at the Royal Lodge in Windsor. The move was widely interpreted as another sign of his isolation from the core royal family and their activities.

The court hearing Friday took place remotely, with Jenkinson appearing from King’s Lynn Police Investigation Centre in Norfolk with his arm in a sling. The incident highlights the continuing public interest and controversy surrounding Andrew, whose reputation appears beyond rehabilitation in the eyes of many royal observers.

As the July trial approaches, the case threatens to bring renewed attention to Andrew’s troubled past and present circumstances, potentially creating further complications for a royal family that has worked to distance itself from his controversies.
