At least four people were killed and 11 others injured when a powerful explosion ripped through a fireworks factory in southern Pakistan on Saturday, according to police and hospital officials.
The blast occurred at a facility in Hyderabad city, located in Pakistan’s Sindh province, approximately 140 kilometers northeast of Karachi. Eyewitnesses reported hearing the explosion from several kilometers away, with thick plumes of smoke visible across the city.
Hyderabad police chief Adeel Chandio confirmed that emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene, transporting the victims to nearby medical facilities. “The building has completely collapsed, and rescue operations are ongoing to ensure no victims remain trapped under the debris,” Chandio told reporters at the site.

Medical officials at Liaquat University Hospital reported that several of the injured sustained severe burns and remain in critical condition. “We have deployed additional medical staff to handle the emergency situation,” said Dr. Fareed Ahmed, the hospital’s medical superintendent. “Some patients may require transfer to specialized burn units in Karachi if their conditions deteriorate.”
Authorities have not yet determined what triggered the explosion. “We are investigating whether it was caused by human error, improper storage of combustible materials, or equipment malfunction,” said Sindh police spokesperson Faraz Ali. “Our forensic teams are collecting evidence once the site is deemed safe.”
