A minibus carrying Chinese tourists crashes in Bali, killing 5 passengers

Five Chinese tourists lost their lives and eight others were injured when a minibus crashed on Indonesia’s popular resort island of Bali on Friday morning, according to local police officials.

The accident occurred as the vehicle was traveling from the southern region toward the northern part of the island on a winding, descending road. Ida Bagus Widwan Sutadi, police chief of Buleleng regency where the crash happened, reported that the driver lost control of the minibus, causing it to veer off the road into a community garden where it struck a tree.

“Due to the driver’s lack of caution when turning and descending, he veered off the asphalt road and into a community garden, causing a traffic accident,” Sutadi explained in an official statement. Authorities confirmed the national road in the Padangbulia village area was dry when the incident occurred, ruling out wet conditions as a contributing factor.

The eight injured tourists were distributed between two local hospitals for treatment. Their conditions have not been disclosed. The Indonesian driver, who reportedly did not require hospital treatment, has been taken into police custody following the crash.
