Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl Performance Drives Massive Streaming Surge

Bad Bunny’s electrifying Super Bowl halftime show has triggered an unprecedented streaming explosion, with the Puerto Rican superstar seeing a 175% increase in U.S. streams the day after his performance, according to data released by Luminate.

The artist amassed nearly 100 million streams on Monday following the Super Bowl – 99.6 million to be exact – compared to 36.2 million the previous Monday. This surge is particularly remarkable considering that February 2 was already a high-water mark, coming just after his historic Grammy win for Album of the Year, the first all-Spanish language album to receive the prestigious award.

Globally, the numbers are even more staggering. Bad Bunny’s worldwide on-demand streams jumped 132% on February 9 compared to February 2, soaring from 117 million to 271 million streams in a single day.

The track “DtMF” emerged as his most-streamed song in the U.S. post-Super Bowl, racking up 10.4 million plays. Other top performers included “Baile Inolvidable” with 6.7 million, “NuevaYol” with 6 million, “Tití Me Preguntó” with 5.4 million, and “EoO” with 4.5 million streams.

Apple Music, a sponsor of the Super Bowl halftime show, reported that Bad Bunny’s performance playlist quickly became the most-played set list on their platform immediately following the show. The artist dominated Apple Music’s Daily Top 100 Global chart with 23 songs making the list, including nine in the Top 25 and five breaking into the Top 10. “DtMF” claimed the number one position.

His latest album, “Debí Tirar Más Fotos,” gained significant international traction, appearing on album charts in 155 countries. The record reached the Top 10 in 128 countries and achieved the number one position in 46 nations, including Mexico, Colombia, Chile, Brazil, Germany, France, and Spain.

Other streaming platforms reported similar dramatic increases. Spotify saw U.S. streams of Bad Bunny’s catalog jump 470% when comparing hourly listening data between 9 p.m. and 3 a.m. ET on Super Bowl Sunday versus the same timeframe the previous week. Amazon Music reported an even larger boost, with streams increasing by 480% in the U.S. following his performance.

The music discovery platform Shazam also reflected this unprecedented engagement. According to Apple Music, Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl appearance marked the biggest day ever on Shazam for any Latin or non-English-language artist. Shazam recognitions across his catalog increased by more than 400% during and immediately following the halftime show compared to daily averages.

This streaming surge underscores the growing mainstream influence of Latin music in the United States and globally. Bad Bunny, born Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, has been instrumental in bringing reggaeton and Latin trap to broader audiences, breaking down language barriers in popular music.

The Super Bowl, traditionally America’s most-watched television event with over 100 million viewers, has become a crucial platform for musical artists. A successful halftime performance can significantly impact an artist’s commercial success, as evidenced by previous performers like Rihanna, The Weeknd, and Jennifer Lopez, who all experienced substantial streaming increases following their appearances.

For Bad Bunny, this streaming explosion follows an already remarkable trajectory. His recent Grammy win had already boosted his streams by 117% compared to the previous week, but his Super Bowl performance has catapulted those numbers to new heights, cementing his status as one of music’s most influential global superstars.

The dramatic streaming response to his performance highlights both Bad Bunny’s immense popularity and the Super Bowl halftime show’s continued relevance as a cultural touchstone in the music industry.
