Private Security Firm Evacuates Thousands from Middle East Amid Escalating Conflict
MCLEAN, Va. – As tensions escalate between the United States, Israel, and Iran, thousands of Americans and other nationals find themselves stranded in the Middle East. While the U.S. Department of State operates a 24/7 task force to evacuate American citizens, private security firm Global Guardian has emerged as a critical player in the evacuation efforts.
Since U.S. and Israeli forces launched strikes against Iran last weekend, Global Guardian has successfully evacuated more than 4,000 people from the region, according to CEO and President Dale Robert Buckner. The Virginia-based firm maintains an extensive international network with personnel in over 140 countries, giving them the capability to respond to emergencies virtually anywhere in the world.
“We provide medical evac services, we provide kidnap, ransom, extortion negotiation payment if someone is kidnapped or extorted,” Buckner explained. “We’re providing about 300 missions a month of executive protection travel, in about 84 countries a month.”
The company’s operations center in northern Virginia serves as the command hub for coordinating these complex evacuations. Beyond their current Middle East operations, Global Guardian has previously assisted Americans in crisis zones ranging from hurricane-devastated Asheville, North Carolina to violence-prone regions of Mexico.
Colin O’Brien, Deputy Vice President of Operations, described one of the firm’s first evacuation operations following the missile strikes. Within hours of receiving a distress call from two American female students studying abroad in Dubai, the company mobilized its response teams.
“Within about four and a half hours from the phone call, we had our teams in motion to go pick these people up,” O’Brien said. “Put them in the car, we were then able to move from the Omani border and by eight hours we were at the border. Work through the border checkpoint to a hotel in Muscat, where we could stop and give them a short rest while we arrange their transportation home.”
Most evacuations in the current Middle East crisis involve ground transportation conducted by local teams that Global Guardian maintains year-round. The company coordinates routes across multiple borders, including from Dubai to Oman, Israel to either Oman, Jordan or Egypt, and from Bahrain into Saudi Arabia.
“There’s a narrative of, here’s the pickup point, here’s the key crossing site,” Buckner said. “This is what you’re gonna need from a paperwork standpoint, legally. And then we’re gonna put you in a hotel or straight onto a commercial flight. Most likely, at this point in the war, we’re gonna put you on a private charter.”
The firm’s comprehensive approach includes not just evacuation services but also camera surveillance of properties and cyber monitoring of mobile devices. Their emergency preparedness strategy involves developing evacuation plans long before disasters strike, ensuring they can act swiftly when crises unfold.
While Global Guardian coordinates with the U.S. State Department, Buckner noted they have not yet conducted flight missions directly on the department’s behalf during the current conflict.
For individuals or organizations seeking these protection services, Global Guardian offers what it calls a “Duty of Care Membership,” which costs approximately $15,000 per year for a family of five. This subscription model gives clients priority access to the firm’s emergency response capabilities.
“You are going to sign a contract — whether it’s a family, a family office or typically a large corporate logo. Then we become, at your beck and call,” Buckner explained.
The growing demand for private security evacuation services highlights the increasing complexity of international conflicts and the challenges faced by traditional government resources in responding to widespread emergencies. As tensions continue to simmer in the Middle East, firms like Global Guardian represent an alternative lifeline for those caught in conflict zones when conventional evacuation options may be limited or unavailable.
For Americans currently trapped in the region, the cost of evacuation services varies based on location, security conditions, and whether ground or air resources are required.
