PIB Refutes Claims of “False-Flag Operation” in Deadly Delhi Car Blast

India’s Press Information Bureau (PIB) fact-check unit has strongly refuted misinformation circulating on social media claiming that Monday’s deadly car explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort was a “false-flag operation.” The blast, which occurred near the iconic Red Fort Metro Station, claimed eight lives and left several others injured.

According to the PIB, numerous Pakistani propaganda accounts have become active in the aftermath of the tragedy, deliberately spreading false information to create confusion among the public. In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), the fact-checking body emphatically stated that these allegations are “fake and baseless.”

“Pakistani propaganda accounts have become active and are trying to create confusion by spreading misinformation claiming #DelhiBlast near the #RedFort was a false-flag operation,” the PIB wrote, urging citizens to “stay alert” and refrain from forwarding unverified messages related to the incident.

The explosion took place around 6:55 PM on Monday when a Hyundai i20 car detonated near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station, one of Delhi’s busiest areas and close to a major tourist attraction. Authorities have classified the incident as a suspected terror attack, and investigations are proceeding at an accelerated pace.

In a significant development, three doctors have been arrested in connection with what officials are describing as the “Kashmir-Faridabad-Delhi terror case.” The suspects have been identified as Dr. Adeel Ahmad Rather from Qazigund, Dr. Muzammil Ahmad Ganai from Pulwama, and Dr. Shaheen Saeed. Both Dr. Rather and Dr. Ganai hail from Jammu & Kashmir, a region that has historically been central to security concerns in India.

The case has drawn immediate attention from the highest levels of the Indian government. Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired multiple high-level security review meetings on Tuesday to assess the situation and coordinate the investigation efforts. The rapid response underscores the seriousness with which authorities view this potential terror attack in the heart of India’s capital.

Forensic teams from both the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) returned to the blast site on Tuesday morning to gather additional evidence. The meticulous collection of forensic material suggests that investigators are working to establish a detailed picture of how the attack was carried out and by whom.

The NIA, India’s premier counter-terrorism investigation agency, is expected to soon register a First Information Report (FIR) in the case. As part of standard procedure in major terrorism cases, the agency will take custody of all evidence gathered by the Delhi Police thus far.

This incident occurs against the backdrop of heightened security concerns in the national capital region. The Red Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of India’s most recognizable monuments, has symbolic importance in Indian history and remains a high-profile target. The nearby area is typically crowded with tourists, commuters, and locals, making the attack particularly concerning for security agencies.

Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities while cautioning against spreading unverified information that could heighten tensions or interfere with the ongoing investigation.

The PIB’s quick response to counter misinformation reflects growing concerns about how social media can be weaponized to spread false narratives following terrorist incidents, potentially exacerbating communal tensions or misdirecting public attention from the actual perpetrators.
