Traditional leaders in the Atwima Kwanwoma District have firmly denied reports claiming the theft of sacred cultural artifacts from the Trede Mpatasie community. Speaking on behalf of local authorities, Chief Linguist Kyeame Osei Kwame described the allegations as baseless and potentially destabilizing for the community.

“These claims about our revered black stool, regalia, and ornaments being stolen are completely false,” Kyeame Osei Kwame stated during a community address. “The peace we are enjoying today is not by chance but through the committed leadership of Nana Asante Krobea Amoaben and the cooperation of our people. We will not allow anyone to disrupt it with falsehoods.”

The traditional spokesman’s comments come in response to rumors circulating widely on social media platforms alleging the disappearance of sacred items from the community. According to Kyeame Osei Kwame, if there was any related incident at all, it occurred approximately four years ago and was resolved through established traditional protocols.

In Ghanaian culture, black stools hold profound significance as repositories of ancestral spirits and symbols of traditional authority. These sacred items represent the continuity of leadership and the spiritual connection between past and present rulers. Any allegation involving such culturally significant artifacts naturally raises concerns among community members and can potentially inflame tensions in areas where traditional leadership matters are sensitive.

The traditional authorities have pointed to a single individual as the source of the misinformation campaign, though they declined to identify the person by name. Local leaders suggest this appears to be a deliberate attempt to revive old conflicts and undermine the stability achieved during Nana Asante Krobea Amoaben’s six-year tenure as traditional leader.

“Our community has enjoyed remarkable development and unity under the current leadership,” said Kyeame Osei Kwame. “These false allegations seem designed specifically to create unnecessary tension and divert attention from our progress.”

Members of the royal family and other residents have joined the traditional authorities in condemning what they characterize as deliberate attempts to create unrest. Several community elders have warned that continued spread of the misinformation could result in legal action against those responsible.

The situation highlights the delicate balance between traditional governance systems and modern communication channels in Ghana’s rural communities. While social media has enhanced connectivity across previously isolated areas, it has also accelerated the spread of unverified information that can threaten social cohesion in communities where traditional leadership structures remain deeply influential.

The Atwima Kwanwoma District, located in Ghana’s Ashanti Region, encompasses several traditional communities where cultural heritage and traditional leadership continue to play vital roles in local governance alongside formal government structures. Trede Mpatasie represents one such community where respect for cultural symbols and traditional authority remains paramount.

Traditional authorities have appealed to citizens, media organizations, and social media users to exercise greater responsibility by verifying claims before sharing them. They emphasized the importance of maintaining the community’s hard-won peace and stability rather than amplifying divisive narratives.

“We urge everyone to support our collective efforts toward preserving peace and unity,” Kyeame Osei Kwame concluded. “Our community’s development depends on maintaining social harmony and focusing on what truly matters—improving lives and preserving our cultural heritage for future generations.”

Local government officials have yet to comment on the situation, though district-level authorities typically avoid direct involvement in traditional matters unless public safety is threatened.
