Delhi authorities have launched a police investigation into what they describe as a deliberate misinformation campaign regarding stray dog management in schools, officials announced Wednesday.
The Directorate of Education (DoE) filed a formal complaint with Delhi Police after false claims circulated widely on social media suggesting that teachers had been instructed to count stray dogs near educational institutions.
“This is completely false and fabricated. There was no such directive issued,” Education Director Veditha Reddy said during a press conference addressing the controversy. “The teachers are only involved in academic activities. The false narrative is mischievous.”
The issue stems from a recent DoE circular appointing nodal officers to handle matters related to stray dogs near schools. However, officials insist the document never instructed teachers to conduct any counting or monitoring of stray animals.
