Arkansas Governor Sanders Accuses Tucker Carlson of “Dangerous Misinformation” Following Trump Criticism

Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders has publicly condemned conservative media personality Tucker Carlson for spreading what she called “dangerous” misinformation after his recent disavowal of support for former President Donald Trump.

During an appearance on CNBC’s “Squawk Box” with host Andrew Ross Sorkin on Thursday, Sanders did not mince words about Carlson’s changed position. “I don’t know what the shift brought to him, but the things that he is saying, the type of misinformation that he’s putting out on a daily basis, are not only wrong, but frankly they’re dangerous,” Sanders told Sorkin.

The governor, who previously served as Trump’s White House Press Secretary, added that she hopes Carlson will “have another about-shift at some point and start talking with real facts and stop misleading people around the country.”

Carlson’s reversal represents a significant shift in conservative media. Once one of Trump’s most vocal supporters since his first presidential campaign in 2016, Carlson stunned his audience on Monday’s episode of “The Tucker Carlson Show” by expressing regret for his years of Trump advocacy.

“I do think it’s like a moment to wrestle with our own consciences. You know, we’ll be tormented by it for a long time,” Carlson said in conversation with his brother, Buckley Carlson. “I will be. And I want to say, I’m sorry for misleading people, and it was not intentional.”

The host’s change of heart appears connected to recent escalations in the Middle East conflict. Carlson has been increasingly critical of U.S. foreign policy, particularly regarding Israel and Iran, suggesting that the current situation contradicts Trump’s promised “America First” isolationist approach that pledged to avoid new “forever wars” following prolonged military engagements in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Carlson went further in his criticism, implicating himself and others who supported Trump ahead of the 2024 election in the developing Middle Eastern conflicts. “You and I and everyone else who supported him –– you wrote speeches for him, I campaigned for him –– I mean, we’re implicated in this for sure,” he told his brother. “It’s not enough to say, ‘Well, I changed my mind’ –– or like, ‘Oh, this is bad –– I’m out.'”

The controversy has deep family connections for Governor Sanders. In late February, just before the outbreak of war, Carlson interviewed Sanders’ father, U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee. During that contentious exchange, Carlson challenged Huckabee’s assertion that it would be “fine” if Israel took control of the entire Middle East, a claim Huckabee suggested was based on biblical rights.

After Carlson’s pushback, Huckabee clarified that Israel does not “want to take it over” and later characterized his original statement as “hyperbolic.” The tension continued when Huckabee subsequently accused Carlson of being “offensive” for suggesting Trump was taking foreign policy direction from Israel during an appearance on NewsNation’s “On Balance.”

“Look, it doesn’t matter what Tucker Carlson thinks about me,” the ambassador said. “It does matter what he thinks about President Trump and his administration, and President Trump’s leadership is the world leader and the head of both foreign policy and domestic policy.”

This public dispute highlights growing fractures within conservative media circles regarding Trump’s foreign policy legacy and ongoing influence. As a former Trump administration insider now leading a state government, Governor Sanders’ critique of Carlson carries particular weight in Republican circles.

The confrontation also underscores the complex relationships between Trump, his allies in political office, and conservative media personalities who have historically provided him with a supportive platform. As the 2024 election cycle intensifies, these divergent perspectives could significantly impact Republican messaging and voter sentiment toward both domestic and foreign policy positions.
