BJP Rejects Congress Claims About Modi in Epstein Files, Calls Allegations Fabricated

A heated political controversy erupted Saturday when the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) accused the Congress party of deliberately spreading misinformation about Prime Minister Narendra Modi by manipulating documents related to Jeffrey Epstein, the late convicted sex offender.

The dispute began when Congress shared a social media post claiming Modi’s name appeared in investigative files related to Epstein. The opposition party posted what it described as an email from the U.S. Department of Justice website, suggesting some form of interaction between Modi and Epstein.

BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra swiftly condemned the post as “fraudulent,” accusing Congress of editing the document’s content to damage the Prime Minister’s reputation and harm India’s international standing.

“The Congress added the words ‘his advice’ in Jeffrey Epstein’s email by editing it to portray as if Prime Minister Modi took some advice from him. These words were not in the original email,” Patra alleged during a press conference, warning of “consequences for such fraud.”

Amit Malviya, head of BJP’s IT department, provided more specific refutations on social media, labeling Congress’s claims as “fake news.” He stated that none of the documents released by the U.S. House Oversight Committee shows any contact between Modi and Epstein, nor is there evidence that the Prime Minister ever sought or received advice from Epstein.

“Verified records contain no reference to Epstein’s ‘advice,’ no mention of dancing or singing, and no statement claiming ‘IT WORKED!'” Malviya asserted. “These details are entirely fabricated and being pushed by the Congress to manufacture outrage.”

The BJP leader contextualized Modi’s 2017 visit to Israel as a significant diplomatic engagement focused on defense, technology, and trade relationships, involving routine cultural courtesies typical of state visits rather than any connection to Epstein.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) also issued a strong denial, dismissing the purported reference to the Prime Minister in the files as “little more than trashy ruminations by a convicted criminal” that should be treated with “utmost contempt.”

Congress, however, doubled down on its allegations. Party leader Pawan Khera described the supposed connection as “a matter of national shame,” claiming that Epstein had written about Modi taking his advice to “dance and sing in Israel for the benefit of the US president.” Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh called the situation “scandalous” and criticized the Prime Minister’s silence on the matter.

This controversy emerges against the backdrop of ongoing revelations about Jeffrey Epstein, who died in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. The recent release of documents related to his case has generated international interest, with various public figures mentioned in the files.

Political analysts note that this exchange represents the increasingly contentious nature of Indian politics ahead of upcoming regional elections, with both major parties seeking to control narratives around national leadership.

The BJP has urged the public to demand evidence rather than accept what they characterize as propaganda, while Congress continues to press for a response from the Prime Minister regarding the alleged documents.

The dispute highlights how international controversies can quickly become weaponized in domestic political discourse, particularly in today’s digital environment where social media amplifies claims and counterclaims before full verification can take place.
