BJP State President Accuses Telangana CM of Spreading Misinformation on Rural Development Bill

BJP State President N. Ramchander Rao has accused Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy of deliberately spreading misinformation about the Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar-Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Act, 2025, commonly known as the VB-G RAM G Act. Speaking to reporters at the BJP’s state headquarters on Saturday, Rao claimed the Congress party is misleading the public about the proposed legislation as part of a calculated political strategy.

“The Congress is running a malicious campaign against the VB-G RAM G Act because they’re worried about the BJP’s growing support ahead of the municipal elections,” Rao stated during the press conference. The rural development legislation, which aims to boost employment and livelihood opportunities in rural areas, has become a flashpoint in Telangana’s increasingly contentious political landscape.

According to Rao, both the Congress and the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) – formerly the ruling party in Telangana – are collaborating to propagate false narratives about the BJP’s initiatives. “The people of Telangana have already experienced anti-people governance under both BRS and Congress administrations. Now these two parties are working together to spread false propaganda against the BJP,” he alleged.

The BJP state president also raised questions about the implementation of the central government’s food security program in Telangana. Rao challenged whether Chief Minister Revanth Reddy was unaware that the Union government was already providing 5 kg of free rice to eligible beneficiaries through the public distribution system. He alleged the state government was attempting to claim credit for the central scheme by distributing fine rice in packaging that deliberately omitted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s photograph.

In a direct challenge to the state administration, Rao demanded that the Prime Minister’s photograph be prominently displayed on all ration bags and receipts distributed in Telangana. He warned that failure to comply would trigger BJP-led protests across the state.

The conflict highlights the ongoing tension between central and state authorities regarding the implementation and branding of welfare schemes – a recurring issue in Indian federalism where both levels of government vie for recognition of public services.

Earlier on Saturday, Rao participated in religious observances at the Shiva temple on the Osmania University campus, where he offered special prayers as part of the nationwide “Somnath Swabhiman Parv” commemoration. The event honors those who sacrificed their lives protecting the historic Somnath Temple, a significant cultural and religious site in Gujarat that has been destroyed and rebuilt multiple times throughout Indian history.

“These commemorations are important to remember the sacrifices made to protect our cultural heritage,” Rao said. “Their legacy will continue to inspire future generations of Indians.”

The political confrontation comes at a critical time for Telangana, where local municipal elections are approaching. The state, formed in 2014 after separation from Andhra Pradesh, has seen political realignment since the Congress defeated the BRS in the 2023 assembly elections. The BJP, which has been steadily increasing its presence in Telangana, appears to be positioning itself as the primary opposition to the Congress-led government.

Political analysts note that rural development and welfare schemes often become key battlegrounds in Indian electoral politics, with parties competing to claim credit for popular initiatives while criticizing opponents’ implementations of similar programs.
