Lebanese Shooting Video Falsely Circulated as Jaipur Airport Incident
A video showing armed individuals exchanging gunfire between vehicles on a road has been making rounds on social media with claims that it depicts violence near Jagatpura Airport in Jaipur, India. However, a fact-check investigation has confirmed the footage actually shows an incident that occurred in Lebanon, with no connection to India.
The misleading video was posted on Instagram by a user with approximately 20,000 followers on October 20, 2025, with the simple caption “Jagatpura Jaipur Airport,” implying the incident took place near the Indian aviation facility.
Vishvas News, which conducted the investigation, found the original source of the footage through reverse image searches of key frames from the video. Their findings revealed the incident actually occurred on the Damour-Al-Saadiyat Road in Lebanon’s Mount Lebanon region.
The authentic footage was initially shared by Instagram account ‘jb.press’ on October 13, 2025, a week before the false Jaipur attribution began circulating. According to the original post, the video shows “a Mount Lebanon officer and an employee injured in an ambush while searching for a wanted man on Damour-Al-Saadiyat Road.”
This information was further corroborated by Lebanon’s Annahar Newspaper, which reported on the same date about the ambush of security personnel in Mount Lebanon. The Moscow News X account (formerly Twitter) also shared the video with Arabic text describing the incident in Lebanon.
“The viral video has been completely misrepresented,” said a Vishvas News spokesperson. “Our investigation conclusively proves this footage has no connection to Jaipur or any Indian location.”
Adding to the confusion, there was a separate violent incident reported in Jaipur’s Jagatpura area on October 12, 2025, just days before the misleading post. According to ETV Bharat, a young man was attacked with sticks and rods by several assailants and shot in the legs. The victim was reportedly hospitalized in critical condition at Sawai Mansingh Hospital, with another individual also injured in the attack.
The timing of this legitimate Jaipur incident may have contributed to the viral spread of the misattributed Lebanese footage, as people familiar with reports of violence in Jagatpura might have been more inclined to believe the false attribution.
Independent Jaipur-based journalist Santosh Kumar Pandey confirmed to fact-checkers that while violence did occur in Jagatpura in mid-October, the widely circulated video footage does not correspond to that incident.
This case highlights the continuing challenge of misinformation on social media platforms, where videos from entirely different countries and contexts can be rapidly repurposed with false claims to generate engagement or spread confusion. The original post falsely linking the footage to Jaipur received significant attention before fact-checkers could intervene.
Law enforcement and security officials in Jaipur have not commented specifically on the misleading video but have previously urged citizens to verify information through official channels before sharing potentially inflammatory content on social media.
The incident serves as a reminder for social media users to exercise caution when encountering dramatic footage of violence or civil unrest, particularly when the posts lack specific details, contextual information, or credible news sources to verify the claims.
