A fatal confrontation between U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers and a Minneapolis woman has sparked controversy after former President Donald Trump shared misleading information about the incident on social media.

On January 7, ICE officers shot and killed 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good during an encounter in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The shooting was captured on video and has since gone viral across social media platforms, drawing national attention and conflicting narratives about what actually occurred.

Trump weighed in on the incident on his Truth Social platform, sharing a 13-second clip and claiming that Good “violently, willfully, and viciously ran over the ICE Officer, who seems to have shot her in self defense.” He added that based on the footage, it was “hard to believe he is alive.”

However, a detailed analysis of multiple video angles of the incident reveals that Trump’s characterization is false. While the slowed-down clip shared by the former president might create the impression that the officer was run over, full-speed footage clearly shows the officer jumping back from Good’s burgundy Honda Pilot SUV and remaining upright throughout the encounter.

A more comprehensive video filmed by an eyewitness and posted by American journalist Max Nesterak provides greater context. This footage shows the SUV initially positioned diagonally across a snow-covered road on Portland Avenue in Minneapolis. Two masked officers in uniform approach the vehicle, with one attempting unsuccessfully to open the door.

When Good begins to drive away, a third officer appears in front of the vehicle with his gun drawn. The officer immediately fires three shots directly at the driver. The video clearly shows the SUV steering past the shooter, with its front tires turned away from him. The officer sidesteps the vehicle while remaining on his feet. Moments later, Good’s SUV collides with a parked car and comes to a stop, after which the officer who fired the shots walks toward the crashed vehicle.

This sequence of events directly contradicts Trump’s assertion that Good ran over the officer. Frame-by-frame analysis confirms that all three ICE agents remained standing as the car drove away.

The incident has created tension between federal and local authorities. While Trump and the Department of Homeland Security have characterized the shooting as self-defense, Minneapolis officials have taken a different stance. The city’s Democratic mayor, Jacob Frey, has strongly condemned the actions of the ICE agents after viewing the footage himself.

Frey explicitly rejected the self-defense characterization and accused federal agencies of escalating the situation unnecessarily. Good was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at a hospital following the shooting.

The case highlights ongoing national debates about law enforcement tactics, use of force, and accountability. It also demonstrates how quickly misinformation can spread about high-profile incidents, even when video evidence is available.

The shooting is currently under investigation, with authorities expected to determine whether the use of deadly force was justified under the circumstances. The case will likely face intense scrutiny given the conflicting accounts and the politically charged nature of immigration enforcement.

As the investigation proceeds, community members and civil rights advocates have called for transparency and a thorough examination of ICE protocols for vehicle stops and use of force policies.
