Doctored Video of Trump “Hitting Head” Goes Viral Despite Evidence of Manipulation

A manipulated video claiming to show U.S. President Donald Trump falling asleep and hitting his head during a White House healthcare event has been widely circulated on social media platforms, prompting immediate fact-checking efforts by verification organizations.

The doctored clip, which gained millions of views across X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and Facebook, purportedly shows the president dozing off and striking his head on the Resolute Desk during a Healthcare Affordability Event held Thursday in the Oval Office. One viral post claimed the president “banged his head with such force that he knocked himself out cold.”

The actual event featured Trump announcing a deal with pharmaceutical company Regeneron aimed at lowering drug prices, followed by a question-and-answer session with reporters covering topics including the dismissal of former Navy Secretary John Phelan, Iran conflict developments, and King Charles’ upcoming state visit.

Digital forensic analysis of the viral clip reveals several inconsistencies that indicate manipulation. Most notably, no one in the room reacts to what would have been a significant incident involving the president. There’s also a noticeable lag between the visual of Trump’s head movement and the sound of impact. Technical examination shows visual artifacts around Trump’s left hand at the four-second mark, a common indicator of digital tampering.

Multiple AI detection tools flagged the video as potentially manipulated, with SORA AI video detector indicating a 66.67 percent probability of artificial generation, while Deepware AI suggested a 52 percent likelihood of manipulation.

The original, unaltered video remains available on the official White House YouTube channel under the title “President Trump Participates in a Health Care Affordability Event.” A review of the complete 67-minute recording confirms that at no point did the president lose consciousness or hit his head as portrayed in the doctored clip.

The spread of this manipulated content comes amid increased scrutiny of the president’s health and cognitive abilities. Questions about Trump’s stamina and public schedule intensified after a New York Times report in November 2025 noted he had significantly reduced his public events, domestic travel, and working hours compared to his first term. The president, who will turn 80 in June, has faced recurring claims about dozing off during public appearances.

While some media outlets did report that the president appeared drowsy at certain points during the healthcare event, no credible sources have confirmed the dramatic head-banging incident portrayed in the viral video.

The rapid spread of this falsified content highlights ongoing challenges with misinformation on social media platforms, particularly involving high-profile political figures. Despite clear evidence of manipulation, the doctored clip continued gaining traction across multiple platforms before fact-checkers could widely distribute their findings.

This incident represents part of a growing trend of increasingly sophisticated visual manipulations targeting political figures, a phenomenon that threatens to further complicate public discourse ahead of future electoral cycles. Media literacy experts continue to emphasize the importance of verifying content through official sources before sharing potentially misleading material.

The fact-check confirming the video’s falsity was originally published by iVerify Pakistan, a joint project of CEJ-IBA and the United Nations Development Programme focused on combating misinformation.
