Fact Check: Video Falsely Claimed to Show PM Modi Receiving Facial Massage

A viral video circulating widely across social media platforms falsely claims to show Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi receiving a facial massage. An investigation by Lighthouse Journalism has conclusively determined that the claim is entirely false, with the man in the video being identified as the husband of a content creator.

The misleading video began gaining traction after being shared by Facebook user Sita Ram Ranakoti and quickly spread to other platforms. On Twitter, one user shared the clip with the caption: “BREAKING: Maharaj’s Massage. LEAKED video of Narendra Modi massage, reports coming that Intel agencies of US has ton of videos of him in compromising Positions.”

Similar unfounded claims accompanied the video as it made its way through various social networks, with numerous accounts presenting the footage as if it were legitimate evidence of the Prime Minister in a personal setting.

Lighthouse Journalism launched an investigation using reverse image search technology on keyframes extracted from the viral clip. This search revealed that the original video was posted on Instagram by content creator Pardeep Kaur Dhillon, featuring her husband receiving a facial treatment.

Pardeep Dhillon regularly posts content featuring herself and her husband on both Instagram and Facebook, often using hashtags such as #CoupleReels to categorize her content. The same video that was misrepresented online appears on her social media accounts with proper context and identification.

After becoming aware of the false claims surrounding her video, Dhillon took to Instagram to post a clarification video addressing the situation and confirming that the man in the footage is indeed her husband, not Prime Minister Modi.

This incident highlights a growing trend of manipulated or misrepresented media being used to spread misinformation about public figures. With India’s highly charged political atmosphere, particularly during election seasons, false claims targeting high-profile politicians have become increasingly common on social media platforms.

Digital media literacy experts point to this case as an example of how easily ordinary content can be repurposed with false narratives that then spread rapidly through social networks. The speed at which such misinformation can travel presents a significant challenge for fact-checkers and news organizations working to combat false information.

Social media companies have implemented various measures to flag potentially misleading content, but the responsibility often falls on users to verify information before sharing it further. Fact-checking organizations like Lighthouse Journalism play a crucial role in investigating viral claims and providing accurate information to the public.

This incident serves as a reminder for social media users to approach viral political content with skepticism and to seek verification from reliable sources before accepting claims at face value, particularly when they involve high-profile political figures like Prime Minister Modi.

The investigation conclusively demonstrates that the viral video does not show Prime Minister Narendra Modi but rather the husband of content creator Pardeep Kaur Dhillon in what was originally an innocent personal video that was later misappropriated with false claims.
