Trump Posts AI-Generated Image Depicting Himself as Jesus, Later Claims He Thought It Was “Doctor” Image

Former President Donald Trump briefly shared an AI-generated image on his Truth Social platform that depicted him in a Jesus-like pose, complete with white robes and a red sash, before deleting the controversial post.

The image, posted on April 12, showed Trump standing over a hospital patient with a halo-like light emanating from his figure. In the illustration, Trump appears to be healing a man in a hospital gown while several people—including a healthcare provider and a soldier—kneel in prayer around them.

When questioned by reporters outside the White House on April 13, Trump confirmed he had posted the image but claimed he misinterpreted what it depicted.

“It was me. I did post it and I thought it was me as a doctor, and it had to do with the Red Cross, as a Red Cross worker there, which we support,” Trump told reporters. “Only the fake news could come up with that one.”

The image had already generated significant backlash on social media platforms before its deletion. Christian organization Knight Templars International, which describes itself as the “largest official non-Masonic Templar organization in the world,” called the post “offensive and blasphemous” and publicly asked Trump to remove it.

Religious scholars and political analysts note the image contains unmistakable religious iconography typically associated with depictions of Jesus performing healing miracles as described in the New Testament. The white robe and red sash are common elements in traditional artistic representations of Christ.

The AI-generated artwork also incorporated strong nationalist imagery, including the Statue of Liberty in the background, American flags, and bald eagles soaring through the sky. These elements, combined with the religious symbolism, reflect themes often associated with Christian nationalism—a movement that has gained prominence within segments of Trump’s political base.

Interestingly, the image appears to be a modified version of an illustration that conservative commentator Nick Adams shared on social media platforms in February. Adams had posted a nearly identical AI-generated image with the caption: “America has been sick for a long time. President Trump is healing this nation.” After media inquiries, Adams deleted his posts featuring the illustration.

The main difference between the two images involves a peculiar figure in the sky. While Adams’ original featured a soldier, Trump’s version contained what appears to be an AI hallucination—a headless figure with horns and awkwardly raised appendages, the type of visual error commonly produced by generative AI tools when creating complex scenes.

This isn’t the first time Trump has shared AI-generated religious imagery of himself. In May 2025, he posted an AI-created image depicting himself as the pope on the same social media platform.

The incident highlights the growing intersection of artificial intelligence, political messaging, and religious symbolism in today’s digital landscape. It also demonstrates the ease with which political figures can now create and distribute images that would have required professional artists or photographers in previous eras.

As AI-generated content becomes increasingly sophisticated and accessible, political communications experts warn that distinguishing between authentic imagery and artificially created content will become more challenging for voters, potentially complicating information integrity during election cycles.

The White House has not responded to requests for additional comment on who created the image or what prompted its removal from Trump’s Truth Social feed.

This is certainly an attention-grabbing image from the former president. While artistic expression can be subjective, many may find this depiction in questionable taste. It’s important to maintain appropriate boundaries between political leaders and religious figures.

I agree, the comparison to Jesus could be seen as inappropriate and divisive. Leaders should be careful not to overstep when it comes to religious symbolism.

  3. James Taylor on

The former president’s claim that he misinterpreted the image is rather hard to believe. Regardless of his intent, posting an AI-generated depiction of himself as a Christ-like figure is sure to be seen as an attempt to elevate his own status and authority. This type of behavior is concerning and unbecoming of a political leader.

  4. I’m curious to hear more about the context and intent behind this image. Was it meant to be a symbolic representation, or was there a more practical purpose that the former president misunderstood? Either way, it’s a provocative visual that is sure to generate strong reactions.

  5. While the former president is certainly entitled to his artistic expression, this image seems to cross an important line. Portraying oneself as a religious savior figure is highly problematic and can be seen as an abuse of power. It’s crucial that political leaders maintain appropriate boundaries and avoid blurring the lines between church and state.
