No Sequel in the Works for “Fighter,” Sources Confirm
Speculation about a potential sequel to the 2024 action film “Fighter” has been definitively put to rest. Despite recent social media buzz suggesting that “Fighter 2” was not only greenlit but scheduled to begin production this year, industry insiders close to the project have confirmed these rumors are unfounded.
The rumors gained traction when an Instagram account posted news about the supposed sequel, which appeared to receive validation when director Siddharth Anand commented on the post with an evil eye emoji. Many fans interpreted this as confirmation that “Fighter 2” was indeed moving forward.
However, a source close to lead actor Hrithik Roshan has exclusively revealed to Bollywood Hungama that there is no truth to these claims. “There is no discussion between Hrithik and Siddharth regarding Fighter 2. These rumors are baseless,” the source stated.
Hrithik Roshan has his schedule firmly committed to other projects. The actor recently announced his foray into production with HRX Films, which is backing two Amazon Prime Video projects – a web series titled “Storm” and a comedy film called “Mess.” Roshan is taking an active creative role in developing both productions.
Beyond his new producer responsibilities, Roshan is deeply involved in pre-production for the much-anticipated “Krrish 4,” which will mark his directorial debut. The actor is also collaborating with Hombale Films, the production house behind blockbusters like “KGF” and “Kantara,” on what industry insiders describe as an “ambitious project.”
Meanwhile, director Siddharth Anand is fully focused on his current production, “King,” featuring an all-star cast including Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Rani Mukerji, Suhana Khan, Anil Kapoor, and Abhishek Bachchan. The film, which released its first teaser on November 2 to coincide with Shah Rukh Khan’s 60th birthday, is scheduled for a theatrical release on December 24, 2026.
The original “Fighter,” which debuted in 2024, was set in 2019 and centered on an elite Indian Air Force unit called the Air Dragons. The unit was portrayed by an ensemble cast featuring Hrithik Roshan as Squadron Leader Shamsher “Patty” Pathania, Deepika Padukone as Squadron Leader Minal “Minni” Rathore, and Anil Kapoor as their commanding officer, Rakesh “Rocky” Jai Singh. The plot followed the unit’s military response to the Pulwama attack, including a mission to destroy a terrorist base in Balakot, Pakistan, and a confrontation with terrorist leader Azhar Akhtar, played by Rishabh Ravinder Sawhney.
“Fighter” represented a significant entry in India’s growing military action genre, combining aerial combat sequences with nationalistic themes. The film joined other patriotic military dramas that have performed well with Indian audiences in recent years.
While the original film provided a complete story arc, the strong performances and box office performance naturally led to sequel speculation among fans. However, with both the star and director committed to other major projects for the foreseeable future, “Fighter 2” remains nothing more than wishful thinking from the film’s admirers.
Industry analysts note that while franchises are increasingly important in Bollywood’s commercial landscape, not every successful film automatically warrants a sequel. For now, fans of the original “Fighter” will need to content themselves with revisiting the 2024 release while the film’s creative team pursues their separate projects.
