In a flurry of misinformation that spread across social media platforms last week, a fabricated Truth Social post attributed to President Donald Trump caused significant confusion regarding his stance on Jeffrey Epstein-related investigations.

The fake post, which circulated primarily on Facebook and later appeared on X and Instagram, purportedly showed Trump telling his followers to “move on” from “all that stuff with Epstein.” Most alarmingly, the fabricated message included the statement “14 IS OLD ENOUGH TO MAKE YOUR OWN DECISIONS!!”—an apparent reference to the age of some of Jeffrey Epstein’s youngest alleged victims.

A thorough investigation confirms the post is entirely fabricated. No such message appears on Trump’s Truth Social profile, and the White House has explicitly denounced it as “obviously fake.” The fabricated image contains multiple design inconsistencies that expose it as a poor imitation of genuine Truth Social posts.

“A review of visual elements alone reveals this as a clear forgery,” said one social media authentication expert who requested anonymity. “The date format, missing verification emblems, and font differences all point to someone using a fake post generator.”

The timing of the fabrication coincides with renewed public interest in Epstein following the U.S. House Oversight Committee’s release of documents related to the disgraced financier, who died by suicide in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. According to the Justice Department’s 2019 findings, some of Epstein’s victims “were as young as 14 at the time he abused them.”

Trump did publish several authentic posts referencing Epstein on November 14, 2025, but none contained language remotely similar to the fabricated content. His actual posts characterized the renewed focus on Epstein as a “hoax” being used by Democrats to “deflect from their disastrous shutdown.”

In one authentic post, Trump wrote: “The Democrats are doing everything in their withering power to push the Epstein hoax again, despite the DOJ releasing 50,000 pages of documents, in order to deflect from all of their bad policies and losses, especially the SHUTDOWN EMBARRASSMENT, where their party is in total disarray, and has no idea what to do.”

Digital forensics experts point to several telltale signs that distinguish the fake from authentic Truth Social content. Genuine posts from Trump’s account feature a black, green, and white emblem next to his username indicating his Truth+ subscriber status—an element missing from the fabricated image. Additionally, Truth Social uses a different date format (“Nov. 14, 2025”) than what appears in the fake post (“11/14/2025”), and employs different fonts.

This isn’t the first time misinformation has circulated about Trump in connection with age of consent laws. In August 2025, fact-checkers debunked claims that the president had sought to lower the age of consent to 14 years old.

The spread of such fabricated content highlights the ongoing challenge social media platforms face in combating politically charged misinformation. Meta, X, and other platforms have implemented various fact-checking measures, but manipulated content continues to proliferate, particularly during politically sensitive moments.

Media literacy experts recommend users verify social media posts by checking official accounts directly rather than trusting screenshots, particularly when the content contains inflammatory or extreme statements that seem designed to provoke strong emotional reactions.

As the 2026 midterm election cycle approaches, analysts expect an increase in similar fabrications targeting political figures across the spectrum, underscoring the importance of critical evaluation of political content shared on social media.
