Viral Video Claiming to Show Palestinian Executions Debunked as Horror Escape Room Footage
A disturbing video purportedly showing Palestinian prisoners being crushed to death in Israeli prisons has been circulating widely on social media platforms, but fact-checkers have confirmed it is actually footage from a horror-themed escape room in Turkey.
The graphic video, which shows a concrete structure with keels hanging by chains falling on young men in a confined space, began circulating in the wake of Israel’s controversial legislation. In March, the Israeli Knesset passed a bill allowing military courts to impose the death penalty on Palestinians convicted of killing Israelis, sparking concerns among human rights organizations and fueling tensions in the region.
Social media users shared the footage with captions describing it as evidence of Palestinian prisoners being executed. One user on X (formerly Twitter) wrote alongside the video: “Caution: it’s a shocking video. This is gut-wrenching. I came across this video of Palestinian prisoners getting crushed. There is no one I can tag for help; I can only tag Almighty. Oh, Almighty, get rid of oppressors.”
The video itself featured text claiming: “HORRIFIC: Independent Investigation Reveals How Young Palestinians Are Being Crushed and Killed Alive Inside Israeli Prisons — This Is Torture and Murder.”
However, an investigation by fact-checkers has revealed the true source of the footage. The video contains the Turkish phrase “koleksiyoncukorkuev,” which translates to “collector horror house.” This clue led investigators to find the original video on TikTok, posted by an account with the username @koleksiyoncukorkuevi on December 19, 2024.
The TikTok account features numerous similar videos, all tagged with “horror house” and “collector,” showing that these are staged scenes from an entertainment venue rather than actual events. Further research uncovered an Instagram account for the same business, which regularly posts promotional content for their horror-themed attractions.
According to the company’s website, Koleksiyoncu was founded in 2015 in Eskisehir, Turkey, and operates a licensed horror escape room business with registered trademarks. The company specializes in fear-based entertainment experiences and has locations throughout Turkey.
This is not the first time this particular video has been misrepresented. Earlier in 2024, the same footage circulated with claims that it showed executions in Syria’s notorious Sednaya prison under President Bashar al-Assad’s regime. Turkish fact-checking organization Teyit and Arabic-language fact-checking platform Misbar both debunked these claims at the time, confirming the footage was from a horror entertainment venue.
The spread of such misinformation comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East and growing concerns about the treatment of Palestinian prisoners. Human rights organizations have documented cases of mistreatment in Israeli detention facilities, but this particular video does not represent actual events.
Social media platforms have struggled to contain the spread of misleading content related to the Israel-Palestine conflict, with various videos being taken out of context or misattributed to inflame tensions. This pattern of misinformation highlights the challenges users face in verifying content before sharing it online, particularly during periods of conflict.
Fact-checkers have recently debunked several other videos falsely claimed to show executions of Palestinian prisoners, indicating a troubling trend of manufactured or misattributed content being used to provoke emotional responses and potentially incite further unrest in an already volatile situation.
As the conflict continues, media literacy experts emphasize the importance of verifying sources and seeking confirmation from reliable news organizations before sharing potentially disturbing content, particularly when such material could contribute to escalating tensions or spreading harmful misinformation.
