Viral Video Falsely Claims Rep. Ted Lieu Exposed Stephen Miller in Billion-Dollar Fraud

A fabricated story claiming Democratic U.S. Representative Ted Lieu of California exposed senior White House adviser Stephen Miller for funneling $6.2 billion through the Cayman Islands has gained significant traction online, despite being entirely fictional.

The false narrative spread widely on YouTube, where a video garnered hundreds of thousands of views by depicting an alleged congressional hearing in which Lieu supposedly confronted Miller saying, “Mr. Miller, on April 3 of this year, $6.2 billion was transferred from a DHS emergency operations account to a corporate entity registered in the Cayman Islands. I have a very simple question: who received $6.2 billion?”

Fact-checking reveals the claim originated from a YouTube channel known as “Homeless People,” which regularly produces AI-generated content featuring fabricated scenarios involving public figures. The channel published the video on March 31, 2026, with numerous viewers appearing to believe the allegations were genuine.

The fraudulent story quickly spread beyond YouTube to other platforms including Facebook, Threads, and Reddit, prompting concerned users to seek verification from fact-checking organizations.

Multiple elements expose the video’s artificial nature. The narration features a distinctly robotic delivery, with one notable moment at the 40-second mark where the AI narrator spells out the word “who” letter-by-letter rather than pronouncing it naturally. The script also employs overly dramatic language typical of AI-generated content, describing Miller’s face as “not pale, not shocked, still…like someone who just realized that the one thing he hoped would never surface had just appeared on a screen in front of 40 cameras.”

Perhaps most deceptive is the video’s visual component, which repurposes footage from an entirely unrelated January 2026 hearing where Lieu questioned Special Counsel Jack Smith about federal criminal investigations into former President Donald Trump. This hearing had no connection whatsoever to Stephen Miller or allegations of financial fraud.

Comprehensive searches across major news outlets reveal no legitimate reporting on the alleged scandal. If a sitting congressman had indeed exposed a senior White House adviser for misappropriating billions of dollars, it would have generated extensive coverage from established news organizations like The Associated Press and Reuters.

This isn’t the first time the “Homeless People” YouTube channel has spread misinformation about Stephen Miller. Previously, the channel falsely claimed that Republican Representative Thomas Massie of Kentucky had accused Miller of funneling $890 million through the Cayman Islands – another fabrication debunked by fact-checkers.

The proliferation of this misinformation highlights growing concerns about AI-generated content designed to mimic legitimate news. Such fabrications often combine realistic elements – like footage from actual congressional hearings – with fictional narratives to create convincing but entirely false stories that can rapidly spread across social media platforms.

Media literacy experts warn that as AI technology becomes more sophisticated, distinguishing between genuine reporting and fabricated content will become increasingly challenging for the average consumer. They recommend verifying claims through established news sources before sharing potentially misleading information.

The incident underscores the need for vigilance when consuming political content online, particularly videos that make explosive allegations without corroboration from mainstream news outlets. As election cycles approach, analysts anticipate that AI-generated misinformation targeting political figures will likely increase in both volume and sophistication.
