Former Fox News Host Megyn Kelly Endorses Suffering of Alleged Drug Boat Survivors

In a contentious podcast statement that has sparked widespread criticism, former Fox News host Megyn Kelly expressed explicit support for the suffering of survivors from a U.S. military strike on an alleged drug trafficking vessel in the Caribbean.

During the December 1, 2025, episode of “The Megyn Kelly Show,” Kelly commented on recent reports that the Department of Defense had conducted a controversial follow-up strike to kill survivors of an initial attack.

“I really do kind of not only want to see them killed in the water, whether they’re on the boat or in the water, but I’d really like to see them suffer. I would like Trump and Hegseth to make it last a long time so that they lose a limb and bleed out a little,” Kelly said while speaking with commentator Mark Halperin.

The remarks came in response to growing scrutiny over Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s reported order to “kill everybody” during a September military operation targeting alleged drug traffickers. According to The Washington Post, when two people survived the initial strike, the operation commander ordered a second strike to fulfill Hegseth’s instructions.

Kelly prefaced her controversial comments by stating that “the armed forces should not commit war crimes” and that she was “definitely on team, don’t commit a war crime.” However, she quickly pivoted to object to “even the scrutiny of this event because it’s all manufactured,” suggesting the investigation was politically motivated.

The former Fox News host justified her position by linking the alleged drug traffickers to the fentanyl crisis affecting American youth. “I’m really having a difficult time ginning up sympathy for these guys who 10 seconds earlier almost got taken out by the initial bomb,” Kelly added.

Since September 2025, the Trump administration has conducted multiple strikes in South American waters of the Caribbean Sea against suspected drug-trafficking vessels. The operations have become increasingly controversial following revelations about potential violations of international law.

The Associated Press has reported that several legal experts believe the second strike violated both peacetime laws and those governing armed conflict. The Department of Defense’s own manual on the laws of armed conflict specifically cites striking survivors of a sunken ship as illegal, stating: “The requirement to refuse to comply with orders to commit law of war violations applies to orders to perform conduct that is clearly illegal or orders that the subordinate knows, in fact, are illegal. For example, orders to fire upon the shipwrecked would be clearly illegal.”

Hegseth has since acknowledged the follow-up strike occurred, attributing it to the “fog of war.” Members of Congress have launched inquiries into Hegseth’s role in the operations and the decision-making process behind the controversial strikes.

Kelly’s comments have spread rapidly across social media platforms including X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, Reddit, and Bluesky, amplifying debate about military ethics, the war on drugs, and the tone of political commentary in an increasingly polarized media landscape.

The controversy unfolds against the backdrop of the Biden-Harris administration’s transition out of power and the incoming Trump administration’s more aggressive approach to drug interdiction operations. Critics argue these tactics may violate international norms, while supporters maintain they represent necessary measures to combat drug trafficking affecting American communities.

As congressional hearings continue, the incident has raised fundamental questions about civilian oversight of military operations and the limits of executive authority in conducting what some describe as acts of war during peacetime.
