Newly Released Epstein Email Claims Trump Had “Not One Decent Cell”

A 2017 email from convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, in which he harshly criticized former President Donald Trump, has been verified as authentic following its release by the House Oversight Committee last month.

In the email sent to former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers, Epstein wrote, “I have met some very bad people. None as bad as Trump. Not one decent cell in his body.” The message was part of a larger email exchange between the two men, occurring several weeks after Trump’s first presidential inauguration.

The email was included among more than 20,000 documents from the Epstein estate released by the U.S. House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform on November 12, 2025. The full exchange, which began on February 6, 2017, showed Epstein and Summers discussing various topics including former President Obama’s post-presidency vacation activities.

At one point in the conversation, after Summers made a comment about Obama avoiding scandal and asked about Trump’s “attitude towards women,” Epstein responded with his scathing assessment of the former president. The complete context that prompted this specific remark about Trump remains unclear from the released correspondence.

The White House did not respond to requests for comment on the newly revealed email. However, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt had previously told fact-checkers that “Trump kicked Jeffrey Epstein out of his club decades ago for being a creep to his female employees.” Leavitt characterized stories about Trump and Epstein as “bad-faith efforts to distract from President Trump’s historic accomplishments.”

The revelation comes amid increased scrutiny of Epstein’s extensive network of powerful connections. The documents released by the House committee have exposed years of correspondence between Epstein and numerous high-profile figures across business, politics, and academia.

Larry Summers, who served as Treasury Secretary under President Clinton and later as a top economic adviser to President Obama, has faced particular scrutiny following the document release. The Harvard Crimson reported that the documents included seven years of correspondence between Summers and Epstein, continuing until July 5, 2019 – just one day before Epstein’s arrest on federal sex trafficking charges.

On November 19, Summers announced his resignation from the board of directors at OpenAI, which he had joined in November 2023. According to NBC News, Summers stated: “In line with my announcement to step away from my public commitments, I have also decided to resign from the board of OpenAI. I am grateful for the opportunity to have served, excited about the potential of the company, and look forward to following their progress.”

Days earlier, Summers had announced he would step back from public commitments while continuing to teach at Harvard. In a statement provided to The Harvard Crimson, Summers acknowledged his regrets, saying, “I have great regrets in my life. As I have said before, my association with Jeffrey Epstein was a major error of judgment.”

The released documents reportedly show that Summers sought advice from Epstein while pursuing a romantic relationship with a woman he described as a mentee. In one November 2018 message, Epstein described himself as Summers’ “wing man.”

This email is just one of many revelations emerging from the extensive collection of Epstein documents. Investigators and journalists continue to analyze the materials for further insights into Epstein’s relationships with powerful figures and the extent of his influence before his 2019 arrest and subsequent death in jail while awaiting trial.

The House Oversight Committee’s document release represents the latest chapter in the ongoing effort to understand the full scope of Epstein’s connections and activities, which continue to reverberate through American politics, business, and academia.
