In a bizarre twist following the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner shooting, investigators are examining a social media post that appears to have mentioned the suspect’s name more than two years before the incident occurred.

An X (formerly Twitter) account posted just two words—”Cole Allen”—on December 21, 2023, at 9:07 p.m. Eastern time. This is the same name as the suspect in the April 25, 2026, shooting at the prestigious Washington event that has drawn national attention and sparked intense security concerns.

The cryptic post came from an account with the handle @HenryMa79561893, which uses the name “Henry Martinez.” Digital forensics experts have confirmed the post is authentic, as X’s platform does not allow users to backdate posts, even those with Premium accounts who can edit their content after publication.

What makes this development particularly unusual is that the account was created in December 2023, made this single post, and has remained dormant ever since. The account’s profile featured an image of Pepe the Frog, which has become widely associated with QAnon, an online movement known for spreading numerous conspiracy theories in recent years.

The account’s header image has also drawn attention from online sleuths. The image, which some users correctly identified as appearing on a website with the URL timemachine.eu in May 2022, was originally published on the stock image platform Unsplash in October 2021 and later used by a website called Psychedelics Today in January 2022.

Some social media users have attempted to draw connections between the account owner and the shooting suspect, claiming that a Henry Martinez co-authored a NASA technical report in 2014—the same year Cole Allen reportedly interned at the space agency. While such a paper does exist, authorities have not confirmed whether the author is the same person behind the X account.

Law enforcement officials have been contacted regarding the post but have not yet commented on whether it is relevant to their investigation. The FBI is actively investigating Allen and the circumstances surrounding the shooting, which disrupted one of Washington’s most high-profile annual gatherings.

The White House Correspondents’ Association dinner, often referred to as Washington’s “nerd prom,” traditionally brings together journalists, celebrities, and political figures, including the president. The event has historically been a night of light-hearted roasts and celebration of press freedom, making the violent incident all the more shocking.

According to reporting by The New York Times, investigators believe the suspect was motivated by personal grievances that prompted him to travel across the country to carry out the attack. Authorities continue to piece together the suspect’s movements and motivations in the days leading up to the shooting.

In the aftermath of the incident, misinformation has flourished online, including false claims that Allen was a registered Democrat who donated to former Vice President Kamala Harris’s 2024 campaign. Fact-checking organizations have been working to separate verifiable facts from speculation.

The enigmatic social media post mentioning the suspect’s name years before the shooting has added another layer of complexity to an already challenging investigation. While the post’s authenticity has been verified, its significance and whether it indicates any prior knowledge of or connection to the attack remain unclear.

Investigators are expected to provide additional updates on the case as they continue to examine evidence and interview witnesses connected to the shooting.
