AI-Manipulated Video of Aishwarya Rai Falsely Shows Confrontation with PM Modi
A deceptive video circulating on social media falsely depicts Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan confronting Prime Minister Narendra Modi about military losses during a supposed “Operation Sindoor.” Forensic analysis confirms the video has been manipulated using artificial intelligence technology to create a fictional exchange that never occurred.
The doctored clip began spreading on X (formerly Twitter) following Rai’s appearance at the centenary celebrations of Sri Sathya Sai Baba in Puttaparthi, Andhra Pradesh on November 19, where she shared the stage with Prime Minister Modi. In the fabricated version, Rai appears to question the Prime Minister about losing “six jets to Pakistan, four Rafale, two S-400 systems and 300 soldiers” during the purported operation.
The manipulated video was originally posted with the caption: “Breaking News: Indian media is now being forced to delete this clip! Aishwariya Rai asks some very tough questions to PM Modi in Puttaparthi.” The post has since been withheld but remains accessible through VPN services.
A thorough examination of the authentic footage, available on ANI News’ official YouTube channel, reveals that no such exchange took place. During her actual seven-minute address, Rai spoke exclusively about Sai Baba’s teachings, particularly highlighting his philosophy of the “Five Ds”: Discipline, Dedication, Devotion, Determination, and Discrimination.
According to verified reports from The New Indian Express, Rai’s genuine speech focused on themes of humanity, love, unity, and spiritual leadership. She concluded with Sai Baba’s message that “There is only one caste: the caste of humanity. There is only one religion: the religion of love. There is only one language: the language of the heart.”
At no point did Rai mention Pakistan, fighter jets, military casualties, or any Indian military operations. Footage also shows her respectfully taking blessings from the Prime Minister during the event.
Technical analysis of the manipulated clip reveals significant discrepancies in tone, pacing, and voice modulation compared to Rai’s authentic speech. When subjected to AI detection tools including Deepfake-O-Meter, the audio was flagged as artificially generated with confidence scores of 100 percent and 75.8 percent by two separate detection algorithms.
This incident highlights the growing concern about AI-generated deepfakes and their potential to spread misinformation. The technology can seamlessly superimpose fabricated audio over genuine video footage, creating convincing yet entirely fictional scenarios that can mislead viewers and potentially inflame political tensions.
The emergence of this falsified content comes amid India’s heightened focus on border security and defense capabilities. While “Operation Sindoor” itself appears to be fictitious, the fabricated claims about military losses touch on sensitive national security matters that could potentially impact public perception of defense preparedness.
Social media platforms continue to struggle with effectively identifying and removing such sophisticated AI-manipulated content before it reaches wide audiences. This case demonstrates the evolving challenges in maintaining information integrity in the digital age, where visual “evidence” can no longer be taken at face value without verification from multiple trusted sources.
