In the aftermath of a devastating explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort on November 10 that claimed 13 lives and injured over 20 people, misleading information has begun circulating across social media platforms.

A set of images showing a car engulfed in flames has been widely shared, with users claiming they depict the recent Delhi blast. One such post on X stated: “Extremely saddened and shocked by the tragic car explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort, which has taken several innocent lives. My heartfelt condolences to the victims and their families. #RedFort #Delhi.”

Several news outlets further amplified the confusion by using these same images in their coverage of the November 10 incident.

However, a fact-check investigation reveals these images have no connection to the recent explosion. They actually show a completely different incident that occurred seven months earlier in Delhi’s Ambedkar Nagar area on April 3, when a moving vehicle suddenly caught fire.

The images first appeared in April in a report published by Agniban with the headline “A moving car suddenly burst into flames in Delhi, with a blast.” According to that original report, the incident took place on April 2 on the Khanpur-Chirag Delhi road.

Video evidence of the April incident further confirms the misrepresentation. Footage published by NDTV India on their YouTube channel on April 3 with the title “Delhi Car Fire: Car turns into a ball of fire in Delhi…what happened to the driver?” shows the same vehicle in flames on a city street. In the video, a white car can be seen parked nearby, and moments after filming begins, a small explosion occurs atop the burning vehicle, sending sparks flying into the air.

ETV Bharat also covered this April incident, using the same image that is now being falsely linked to the November tragedy.

This type of misinformation is increasingly common following major disasters or incidents, when social media users and sometimes even news outlets rush to share dramatic imagery without proper verification. The practice can lead to public confusion, unnecessary panic, and a distortion of actual events.

The November 10 explosion near Red Fort represents one of the deadliest incidents in Delhi in recent months. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the blast, which occurred in a densely populated area frequented by both locals and tourists due to its proximity to one of India’s most recognized historical monuments.

In times of tragedy, accurate reporting becomes particularly crucial. False information not only hampers public understanding but can also impede emergency responses and investigative efforts. Social media platforms continue to grapple with the rapid spread of unverified content during crisis situations, despite implementing various fact-checking measures.

For those seeking information about the November 10 Delhi explosion, authorities recommend following updates from official government channels and established news sources that adhere to journalistic standards of verification before publication.
