The viral video purporting to show iBomma’s Immadhi Ravi demonstrating hacking techniques in court is entirely fabricated, according to an investigation by NewsMeter. The digitally manipulated footage has spread rapidly across social media platforms, misleading thousands of viewers about proceedings in the high-profile piracy case.

The investigation comes as Ravi’s police custody period concluded on Monday. Ravi stands accused of being the mastermind behind iBomma, a sophisticated movie piracy network that allegedly generated crores of rupees through illegal distribution of copyrighted content. According to authorities, he established an extensive network of operatives across India while utilizing foreign servers and offshore payment systems to conceal financial transactions.

The deceptive video depicts a bearded man identified as Ravi standing in what appears to be a courtroom, typing on a laptop and wearing a VR headset while supposedly explaining hacking methodologies to a judge. The Instagram account “su8tvchannel” was among the first to share the footage with a detailed caption claiming it represented “live hawking demo” footage captured during actual court proceedings.

However, careful analysis by fact-checkers revealed numerous inconsistencies. The courtroom setting appears generic and staged, with uniformed personnel who don’t match Telangana Police standards. More tellingly, the man portrayed in the video has a full beard, while authentic images from Ravi’s arrest show him clean-shaven. Technical examination using Deepfake-O-Meter, an AI detection tool, confirmed the video’s artificial nature with multiple detectors flagging it as synthetic with confidence scores exceeding 98%.

NewsMeter traced the video’s origin to Instagram user @prajayhoney, who uploaded the content on November 23. The post has since garnered over 6.9 million views. When contacted by fact-checkers, content creator Prajay Honey readily admitted to creating the video using artificial intelligence tools.

“Yes, the video was created using AI tools and shared from my profile. There was no intention to harm or mislead anyone,” Honey told NewsMeter. He further explained his process, stating that he generated the audio using Kits AI before enhancing it with additional sound effects to create a realistic impression. According to Honey, he works with a Vizag-based startup developing AI technologies and has professional experience as a sound engineer.

Honey has since posted a disclaimer on his Instagram story acknowledging the artificial nature of his content: “All the visuals you see here are AI-crafted by me. I’m exploring the future of creativity – and bringing you the most unique footages.”

The rapid spread of this convincing yet entirely fabricated courtroom scene highlights growing concerns about AI’s potential to create and disseminate misinformation. The iBomma case has attracted significant public attention in India, particularly within the film industry, which continues to battle widespread piracy issues affecting revenue and intellectual property rights.

Law enforcement officials have described the real Ravi’s operation as technologically sophisticated, allegedly using complex digital infrastructure to distribute pirated films while concealing the financial benefits. The actual legal proceedings against him continue without the theatrical demonstrations portrayed in the viral fabrication.

As AI-generated content becomes increasingly realistic and accessible to creators, this incident serves as a reminder of the challenges facing media consumers in distinguishing authentic news from artificial creations, particularly regarding high-profile cases that attract public interest.
