Experts to Showcase AI Solutions for Combating Geopolitical and Climate Disinformation
The AI4Debunk project is set to host its second webinar in the “Disinfo Talks” series, bringing together specialists to demonstrate how artificial intelligence can be deployed against misinformation in critical global domains. The online event, scheduled for May 12, will focus specifically on countering false narratives in geopolitics and climate science.
The 90-minute session, titled “On the Frontlines: Debunking Disinformation in Geopolitics and Climate Science with AI Solutions,” aims to connect experts from technology, research, policy, and media sectors to address growing concerns about the spread of false information in these consequential fields.
“This webinar represents a crucial step in our ongoing efforts to provide citizens with the tools they need to navigate today’s complex information landscape,” said a representative from the AI4Debunk initiative, a European project of which EUalive is a contributing partner.
The timing of the event comes amid escalating concerns about organized disinformation campaigns targeting both geopolitical conflicts and environmental science. Recent studies have shown a marked increase in coordinated efforts to spread false narratives around these topics, with increasingly sophisticated techniques making detection more challenging for the average media consumer.
According to the event agenda, participants will first receive an introduction to the AI4Debunk initiative before moving into panel discussions featuring case studies of real-world disinformation networks. The webinar will specifically examine disinformation related to the Ukraine conflict, revealing how AI tools can map and expose networks of false information that have attempted to influence public perception of the crisis.
Climate science, another field frequently targeted by coordinated misinformation campaigns, will feature prominently in the discussions. Experts will demonstrate how artificial intelligence can identify patterns in climate disinformation and provide fact-based corrections at scale – a critical capability as climate policy decisions face growing public scrutiny.
The event promises to go beyond theoretical discussions, offering attendees a hands-on demonstration of new AI tools designed to detect and counter false information. These demonstrations will showcase practical applications that both organizations and individuals can employ to verify information sources and identify potential manipulation.
“What makes this approach unique is the focus on human-AI collaboration,” explained a project researcher. “We’re not suggesting AI alone can solve the disinformation crisis, but rather that these tools can amplify human critical thinking and fact-checking capabilities in ways that were impossible just a few years ago.”
The AI4Debunk project represents part of a broader European initiative to strengthen digital media literacy and information integrity across the continent. As disinformation increasingly targets democratic processes, scientific consensus, and international relations, European officials have emphasized the need for technological solutions that can operate at the scale and speed required to be effective.
Industry analysts note that the field of AI-powered fact-checking has seen significant advancement in recent years, with new capabilities in natural language processing allowing systems to better understand context, identify inconsistencies, and verify claims against trusted sources.
The May 12 webinar, scheduled to run from 11:00 to 12:30 CEST, will be entirely online and is open to professionals working in related fields as well as members of the public interested in understanding how technology can help address the disinformation challenge.
Participants are expected to gain insights into both current AI capabilities and emerging techniques that show promise for future applications, while also confronting the ethical considerations that accompany technological approaches to information verification.
Those interested in participating can find additional details and registration information through the EUalive platform or by contacting the AI4Debunk project directly.
