Ukraine has pledged to assist its Baltic allies in countering Russian information campaigns and allegations regarding the use of Ukrainian drones in Baltic airspace, according to Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga.

Speaking to reporters during a recent press briefing, Sibiga highlighted Russia’s intensified information operations targeting Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia. “Right now, Russians are especially active in the Baltic states in the information space. They are signaling that airspace has been granted for the use of Ukrainian drones, among other claims,” Sibiga stated.

The foreign minister confirmed that Ukraine’s Baltic partners had specifically requested assistance in reducing tensions stemming from Russian threats. “And, of course, we will help our friends,” Sibiga affirmed, underscoring Ukraine’s commitment to regional solidarity in the face of Russian pressure tactics.

This cooperation comes amid growing concerns over Russian disinformation in the Baltic region, which has historically been vulnerable to Moscow’s influence operations. As NATO’s northeastern flank, the Baltic states have been staunch supporters of Ukraine since Russia’s full-scale invasion began in February 2022, making them frequent targets of Russian propaganda and hybrid warfare tactics.

On April 10, the foreign ministers of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania issued a joint statement categorically rejecting Russian claims that they had permitted Ukrainian drones to use their airspace for strikes against Russian territory. The unified response demonstrates the Baltic nations’ determination to counter what they view as deliberate Russian provocations designed to create division among Ukraine’s European supporters.

The situation grew more complex after debris from Ukrainian drones was discovered within the territories of these Baltic nations. Rather than distancing themselves from Ukraine, however, the three countries attributed the drone crashes directly to Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. They collectively called for increased international pressure on Moscow, framing the incidents as further evidence of the war’s expanding regional impact.

Security analysts note that Russia’s accusations regarding drone operations serve a dual purpose: to create friction between Ukraine and its European supporters, and to establish a pretext for potential provocations in the Baltic region. The three Baltic states, all former Soviet republics and now NATO members, have consistently warned about Russian threats to regional stability since the war in Ukraine began.

Ukraine’s offer to help counter these information attacks represents an evolution in the relationship between Kyiv and its Baltic supporters. While Ukraine has typically been on the receiving end of assistance from these nations, this development signals Ukraine’s growing capacity to contribute to broader regional security efforts despite its ongoing conflict with Russia.

The collaboration highlights the multifaceted nature of modern security challenges in Eastern Europe, where information warfare often precedes or accompanies conventional military threats. By jointly addressing Russian disinformation, Ukraine and the Baltic states aim to strengthen regional resilience against potential escalation.

Sibiga emphasized that the ultimate goal of this cooperation is to reduce regional tensions and bolster security across Eastern Europe. As Russia continues to use information operations as a tool of foreign policy, coordinated counter-measures have become increasingly important for maintaining stability along NATO’s eastern flank.

Military experts suggest that drone incidents and related information campaigns may represent Russia’s attempts to test NATO’s collective defense resolve and identify potential vulnerabilities in the alliance’s eastern defenses. The Ukraine-Baltic cooperation on information defense could serve as a model for similar arrangements with other European partners facing comparable Russian pressure tactics.
