Türkiye has firmly rejected allegations published in several Indian media outlets that claimed Ankara has connections to terrorist activities in India. The Turkish Center for Combating Disinformation (DMM) issued a strong statement characterizing these reports as part of a calculated disinformation campaign aimed at damaging diplomatic relations between the two nations.

According to the DMM, claims suggesting that Türkiye provides logistical, diplomatic, or financial support to terrorist groups operating in India are “completely unfounded and lack any factual basis.” The center emphasized that such misleading reporting directly contradicts Türkiye’s well-established position and documented actions in global counter-terrorism efforts.

“These manipulative reports attempt to create a false narrative about Türkiye’s international security stance,” said a spokesperson from the DMM, speaking on condition of anonymity. “They represent a deliberate attempt to undermine decades of counter-terrorism cooperation.”

The controversy emerges at a time when India and Türkiye have been navigating complex diplomatic waters, with occasional tensions over regional issues, particularly regarding Kashmir. Diplomatic experts suggest the timing of these allegations may not be coincidental, as both countries have been working to expand economic ties despite political differences.

Türkiye has long maintained its position as a key player in international counter-terrorism initiatives. The DMM highlighted Ankara’s substantial contributions to the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy and its influential role in shaping NATO’s anti-terrorism policies. The country’s strategic position between Europe and Asia has placed it at the forefront of various security challenges, resulting in extensive experience in counter-terrorism operations.

“Türkiye has consistently demonstrated its commitment to combating terrorism in all its forms,” noted Ahmet Yildiz, an international security analyst based in Istanbul. “The country has faced multiple terrorist threats domestically and has developed sophisticated counter-terrorism capabilities that benefit the international community.”

Indo-Turkish relations have historically been characterized by periods of cooperation interspersed with diplomatic tensions. Trade between the two nations reached approximately $10.7 billion in 2022, making economic partnership a significant aspect of bilateral relations despite occasional political disagreements.

The DMM described allegations of Türkiye engaging in radicalization activities targeting India as “purely disinformative” and urged the public to dismiss these unfounded claims. According to the center, such false narratives aim to undermine Türkiye’s significant contributions to global security, stability, and peace efforts.

Security experts point out that disinformation campaigns have become increasingly common in international relations, often used as tools to influence public opinion and diplomatic positioning. The deliberate spread of false information about a country’s security policies can have serious implications for bilateral relations and regional stability.

“When false allegations about terrorism support enter the public discourse, they can create lasting damage to diplomatic ties and public perception,” explained Dr. Meena Sharma, an international relations professor specializing in Indo-Turkish relations at Delhi University. “Such narratives are particularly harmful because they touch on national security concerns, which are understandably sensitive for all governments.”
