Turkey Denies Alleged Links to Terrorist Activities in India Following Delhi Blast

Turkey has issued a strong denial of media reports claiming the country is engaged in “radicalisation activities” targeting India and other nations. The Turkish government dismissed these allegations as “part of a malicious disinformation campaign aimed at damaging bilateral relations between the two countries.”

The denial comes in the wake of the recent Delhi blast that claimed 13 lives. Following the attack, several Indian news outlets cited unnamed police sources suggesting that investigators had traced connections between arrested suspects and a foreign handler operating from Ankara, the Turkish capital.

Turkey’s Directorate of Communications Centre for Countering Disinformation released an official statement addressing these claims. The directorate specifically highlighted reports from prominent Indian media outlets News18 and India Today, posting screenshots of their coverage with large cross marks on social media platform X.

The News18 report, described as exclusive, claimed to uncover “Turkey’s role in radicalising sleeper cells against India” and alleged that the “Turkish government is providing logistical, diplomatic and financial help to all terrorist groups across the world.” Meanwhile, India Today ran a story questioning a “Murky Turkiye link to Red Fort blast.”

In its response, Turkey categorically rejected any association with terrorism, stating it “firmly rejects all acts of terrorism, regardless of where or by whom they are committed.” The country positioned itself as “a leading country in the fight against terrorism through cooperation with the international community.”

The Turkish statement emphasized the nation’s active participation in international counter-terrorism efforts, specifically noting its contributions to the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy and its role in shaping NATO’s counter-terrorism policies. It characterized claims of Turkish involvement in radicalisation activities as “purely disinformative and lacking any factual basis.”

“Such unfounded and manipulative reports targeting Türkiye are attempts to undermine our country’s contributions to international peace, security, and stability,” the statement continued, urging the public “not to give credence to such disinformative claims.”

This diplomatic tension emerges at a sensitive time for India-Turkey relations, which have experienced periodic strains in recent years. Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has previously made statements on Kashmir that India considered interference in its internal affairs, while Turkey has strengthened ties with Pakistan, India’s regional rival.

The allegations come amid India’s heightened security concerns about foreign influences on domestic terrorism. Indian security agencies have increasingly focused on transnational links in recent terror investigations, particularly examining financial support channels and ideological networks.

Counter-terrorism cooperation has become a significant component of international diplomacy, with countries frequently exchanging intelligence and coordinating strategies to combat terrorist threats. Allegations of state-sponsored terrorism can severely damage diplomatic relations and undermine joint security initiatives.

The Indian government has not yet issued an official response to Turkey’s denial. Investigation into the Delhi blast continues, with authorities pursuing multiple leads regarding both domestic and international connections.

Terrorism experts note that definitive attribution in such cases requires substantial evidence, particularly when involving allegations against foreign governments. The public discourse around terrorism investigations often becomes politicized before investigations conclude, potentially complicating diplomatic relations.

As the investigation progresses, both countries will likely engage through diplomatic channels to address these allegations while maintaining their respective counter-terrorism stances.
