Left-leaning social media users are circulating an AI-generated audio clip falsely depicting former President Donald Trump demanding officials block the release of documents related to Jeffrey Epstein, according to researchers who identified the disinformation on Friday.

The synthetic recording, which features a Trump-like voice declaring “Not releasing the Epstein files” and threatening “If I go down, I will bring all of you down with me,” has gained significant traction across platforms including Instagram and TikTok, with some posts accumulating millions of views.

Disinformation watchdog NewsGuard confirmed the audio is “an AI-generated fake.” Their investigation revealed the clip originated from a video created with OpenAI’s text-to-video model Sora, initially posted by a liberal TikTok user. The material subsequently spread through videos lacking Sora’s watermarks, effectively concealing its artificial origins.

This fabricated content emerges amid renewed public interest in Epstein’s connections to powerful figures. The convicted sex offender, who died in 2019, maintained relationships with numerous high-profile individuals across business, politics, academia, and entertainment before facing sex trafficking charges.

In a separate instance of misinformation, liberal social media users have falsely attributed a quote to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, claiming she stated “It is not President Trump who is in the Epstein emails. It is another person with the same name.” One post promoting this fabrication garnered over four million views on X (formerly Twitter).

A White House account directly responded to one such post, stating: “No… she didn’t. You are a weapons grade moron.”

These incidents highlight how misinformation proliferates across the political spectrum in America’s increasingly polarized information environment. With reduced moderation on many social media platforms, distinguishing between authentic and fabricated content has become increasingly challenging for average users.

The spread of such falsehoods comes as Trump himself has maintained distance from Epstein, insisting he has “nothing to do” with the disgraced financier despite their previous association. After initially resisting efforts to release government documents related to Epstein, Trump reversed course this week, signing legislation requiring his administration to disclose these files.

The bill, which moved swiftly through Congress following Trump’s unexpected shift in position, mandates the release of documents that could potentially reveal new information about Epstein’s extensive network. However, insiders caution that even with presidential approval, the administration could employ redactions, procedural delays, or cite ongoing federal investigations to limit public access to sensitive details.

Epstein’s case has remained a lightning rod for conspiracy theories and public outrage since his 2019 arrest and subsequent death in custody. The financier had cultivated relationships with numerous wealthy and influential figures over decades, during which he allegedly trafficked girls and young women for sexual exploitation.

As both real investigations and manufactured controversies continue to swirl around the Epstein case, the proliferation of AI-generated content presents a growing challenge to information integrity, particularly as the technology becomes more sophisticated and widely accessible.
