Veteran Actor Shatrughan Sinha Dismisses Propaganda Claims About ‘Dhurandhar’

Despite being released in theaters last December, Aditya Dhar’s spy thriller “Dhurandhar” continues to generate buzz across Bollywood. The film has now received a glowing endorsement from veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha, who emphatically rejected criticism that it serves as propaganda.

In a detailed post on social media platform X, Sinha described the film as “an absolute masterpiece” and questioned the propaganda label that some critics have attached to it. “What ‘propaganda’ film??? A film is a film is a film. It’s a great film, gripping, interesting & full of entertainment, made with sincerity,” Sinha wrote.

The veteran actor particularly praised the film’s production design, noting that the crew successfully recreated Pakistani settings in Bangkok, Thailand, with remarkable authenticity. “The sets have been created beautifully in Bangkok, Thailand (depicting Pakistan) in a very realistic manner,” he observed.

Sinha’s review highlighted the film’s technical excellence, specifically mentioning its editing and cinematography. “Technically brilliant, with great editing. The cinematographer deserves applause for his exquisite work,” he stated.

The star-studded cast received significant praise from Sinha, who singled out lead actor Ranveer Singh for his performance as the Indian spy Hamza Ali Mazari, alias Jaskirat Singh Rangi. “One & only our Ranveer Singh fits the bill & is outstanding,” Sinha remarked.

He also commended Sanjay Dutt, referring to him as the “worthy son of the most worthy father late & great Sunil Dutt,” and Akshaye Khanna, who plays the antagonist Rehman Dakait. According to Sinha, Khanna “creates his own identity by portraying an extraordinary role & leaves an extremely lasting impression with his flawless performance.”

The actor extended his praise to supporting cast members, including Rakesh Bedi, whom Sinha described as “the icing on the cake” for his “wonderful & amazing role with a fine balancing act.” Saumya Tandon was also recognized for standing out in what Sinha called a “powerful cameo portrayal.”

“Dhurandhar” tells the story of an Indian intelligence operative who infiltrates a Baloch gang in Pakistan’s Lyari area. The film has been lauded for its narrative depth and technical execution under Dhar’s direction, with Sinha crediting the director as a “role model now, in cinema.”

The film’s soundtrack also earned Sinha’s approval, particularly the songs “Shararat” and “Ishq Jalakar-Karvaan,” which he described as “euphoric, foot-tapping with great repeat value.”

Industry insiders note that “Dhurandhar” represents a growing trend of Indian films exploring geopolitical narratives set against the backdrop of India-Pakistan relations. The spy thriller genre has seen increased popularity in recent years, with several high-budget productions tackling similar themes.

Film trade analysts point out that the movie’s continued discussion months after its theatrical release demonstrates its cultural impact and staying power in an increasingly competitive market.

Audiences can look forward to a sequel, “Dhurandhar: The Revenge,” scheduled for release next month. The follow-up will delve deeper into Ranveer Singh’s character, showing him completing his mission by taking control of a criminal syndicate in Pakistan and culminating in a confrontation with a character played by Arjun Rampal. The sequel will also feature Sanjay Dutt, Sara Arjun, and R Madhavan.

“Dhurandhar: The Revenge” will face significant box office competition, releasing alongside Yash’s pan-Indian film “Toxic: A Fairytale for Grownups.” The latter features an ensemble cast including Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi, Rukmini Vasanth, and Tara Sutaria. Both films are set to hit theaters on March 19, setting up what industry experts predict will be an interesting battle for audience attention and box office receipts.
