Russian Forces Place Children in Danger Zone for Propaganda, UN Security Council to Meet

Russian occupiers in the Luhansk region have brought children to frontline areas to record “Christmas carols,” according to a report by the Center for National Resistance (CNR). The agency condemned the action as a deliberate use of minors in propaganda campaigns in areas vulnerable to artillery fire and drone attacks.

The CNR revealed that prayer services and propaganda filming occurred in locations within range of active combat. More troubling still, organizers reportedly transported some children by bus without obtaining parental consent, knowingly placing them in danger. Children were positioned alongside soldiers and compelled to participate in religious services and propaganda recordings.

The report highlights the role of priests operating under the occupation administration’s control, who both accompanied children in the frontline zone and blessed soldiers. This practice represents a disturbing instrumentalization of both religion and children for propaganda purposes in a conflict zone.

The UN Security Council has announced an emergency meeting scheduled for January 12 at 22:00 Kyiv time to address the latest Russian actions and alleged violations of the UN Charter. Ukraine’s Foreign Minister, Andriy Sibiga, has called for international unity in demanding an end to the aggression and greater protection for civilians.

“Russian attacks undermine international security and the peaceful efforts of the United States, European states, and other partners,” Sibiga stated, emphasizing the broader implications of these actions on global stability.

In an apparently unrelated development, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio explained his country’s withdrawal from 66 international organizations. Rubio defended the decision as the result of a comprehensive analysis, stating that many of these bodies had become “ineffective bureaucracies and politicized platforms.” He noted that some organizations “cannot demonstrate results” and “did not serve the United States’ national interests.” Rubio added that the review of U.S. participation in international organizations is ongoing.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has also issued statements urging increased pressure on Iran in response to the deaths of protesters there. Highlighting Ukraine’s own historical struggle against totalitarian regimes, the ministry expressed support for civil rights in Iran.

“Ukraine, which has walked the path of fighting totalitarian and authoritarian regimes, values civil rights above all. Therefore we urge the Iranian authorities to refrain from violence against protesters,” said Foreign Minister Sibiga, drawing parallels between different struggles for freedom.

On the economic front, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced that some sanctions on Venezuela could be lifted as early as next week to facilitate oil sales. “We are lifting sanctions on the oil that will be sold,” Bessent confirmed. A meeting with IMF and World Bank leadership is expected to discuss resuming cooperation with Venezuela, with the potential to unfreeze some of the country’s assets held in IMF Special Drawing Rights to support its struggling economy.

Meanwhile, in a development related to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has located fragments of a Russian ballistic missile used in a January 8 strike on Lviv. The discovered components reportedly belong to the Oreshnik missile system, providing further evidence of the weapons being deployed against Ukrainian civilian centers.

These diverse events underscore the complex and interconnected nature of current geopolitical tensions, from the exploitation of children in conflict zones to international diplomatic realignments and economic sanctions policies.
