Naval Region 2 Command Reviews Maritime Communication Efforts with Ho Chi Minh City
Naval Region 2 Command, in collaboration with the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, convened a conference on December 9 to assess coordination on maritime and island communication activities.
The meeting brought together key officials, including Mr. Duong Anh Duc, Head of the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, and Ms. Le Thi Thuy, the Commission’s Deputy Head, to evaluate ongoing programs and chart future collaboration.
During the conference, participants reviewed several successful initiatives, including communications on maritime human resources development and the “Vietnam Navy in the heart of the people” program scheduled for the 2022-2030 period. Officials also assessed implementation of support programs for fishermen led by the Vietnam People’s Navy, which have become essential resources for coastal communities.
The gathering served as a platform to discuss enhanced coordination mechanisms for information sharing and to align communication strategies for upcoming years. In a significant development, Naval Region 2 formalized its commitment by signing coordination agreements with various agencies and units covering communication work for the 2026-2030 period.
Ms. Le Thi Thuy commended Naval Region 2’s collaborative efforts with local authorities in disseminating critical information about Vietnam’s maritime territories. “These initiatives have been instrumental in protecting sovereignty over our waters and islands while raising public awareness on these vital matters,” she noted.
She emphasized that the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee has consistently identified maritime and island communication as a fundamental, long-term political priority. This focus aligns closely with the implementation of Party congress resolutions at all levels, particularly supporting the breakthrough programs established during the First Congress of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee regarding maritime economic development.
The city administration proposed strengthening coordinated communication efforts to deepen understanding of national sovereignty issues among officials, Party members, and the general public. Officials also advocated for connecting these communication activities with tangible support for armed forces’ families, including assistance programs for relatives of officers and soldiers serving in maritime regions.
Additional recommendations included organizing visits and providing aid to children of military personnel and disadvantaged fishing communities. These initiatives reflect a comprehensive approach that combines information dissemination with practical support for those directly involved in protecting and utilizing Vietnam’s maritime resources.
The conference highlights Vietnam’s continued emphasis on maritime sovereignty amid ongoing tensions in the South China Sea region. For Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam’s economic powerhouse, developing a robust maritime economy represents both a strategic priority and an economic opportunity.
As Vietnam continues to assert its maritime claims and develop its blue economy, communication efforts like those coordinated between Naval Region 2 and Ho Chi Minh City authorities play a crucial role in building public understanding and support for national policies regarding territorial waters and maritime resources.
These collaborative initiatives underscore Vietnam’s whole-of-government approach to maritime issues, integrating military, political, and civilian efforts to protect national interests while supporting coastal communities and developing sustainable maritime industries.
