Former Fox News host Megyn Kelly has delivered a scathing critique of her previous employer’s coverage of President Donald Trump’s recent military action against Venezuela, describing the network’s reporting as resembling “Russian propaganda” due to its uncritical enthusiasm for the intervention.

On Monday’s episode of “The Megyn Kelly Show” on SiriusXM, Kelly expressed dismay at what she characterized as Fox News’ one-sided cheerleading for military action. “I turned on Fox News yesterday, and I’m sorry, but it was like watching Russian propaganda,” she said. “There was nothing skeptical. It was all rah-rah cheerleading, yes, let’s go.”

Kelly, who maintains she supports the military and believes in Trump, nonetheless argued that caution is warranted when considering foreign military interventions. Drawing from her own experience as a Fox News anchor, she admitted to having been previously “embarrassed” by her uncritical coverage of similar situations in the past.

“I’m going to stay on the yellow light for this,” Kelly explained, positioning herself between outright support and opposition to the action. “I’m not in the green-light territory. I’m not in the red-light territory either.”

The conservative commentator also questioned the Trump administration’s framing of the operation, which has been characterized as a law enforcement action against drug trafficking rather than a military invasion. Kelly dismissed this explanation, calling it “bullshit” while acknowledging potential strategic benefits of the intervention.

“I see all of the strategic advantages of what he’s done. Trust me, I do,” she said. “I see that other countries like Russia and China and Cuba were all over Venezuela and its oil, posing a potential threat to the United States. I get that. That’s actually the most persuasive argument and obviously the real one.”

Kelly’s concerns stem from the United States’ troubled history with foreign interventions. “I have seen what happens when you cheerlead, unabashedly, U.S. intervention in foreign countries, thinking it’s for our good, and for the national and the international good, only to wind up with what we’ve called [a] quagmire in places like Iraq, not to mention Libya,” she explained.

She expressed particular concern about Trump’s suggestion that American “boots on the ground” could be deployed to Venezuela, making her opposition deeply personal. “Well, whose boots?” she asked. “Because I have a 16-year-old boy, and I have a 12-year-old boy, and I have a 14-year-old girl, and a lot of my listeners have children, too, who are actually the ones who might have to fill the boots.”

Venezuela, a major oil-producing nation in South America, has been embroiled in political and economic turmoil for years under President Nicolás Maduro’s leadership. The country has become a geopolitical flashpoint, with Russia, China, and Cuba maintaining strong ties to Maduro’s government, while the United States has previously recognized opposition leader Juan Guaidó as the legitimate president.

Kelly concluded her remarks by firmly stating she “will not be joining the Fox News cheerleading brigade this time,” adding that she’s been “burned too many times” by prematurely supporting military interventions that later proved problematic.

The critique comes as U.S.-Venezuela relations enter a new phase under Trump’s leadership, with significant implications for regional stability, oil markets, and America’s broader approach to foreign policy in Latin America.
