In a stunning critique of her former employer, media personality Megyn Kelly has lambasted Fox News for what she describes as uncritical coverage of potential U.S. military intervention in Venezuela, comparing the network’s reporting to “Russian propaganda.”
Speaking on Monday’s episode of her SiriusXM program “The Megyn Kelly Show,” the former Fox News anchor expressed dismay at what she perceived as the network’s unquestioning support for potential military action under the Trump administration.
“I turned on Fox News yesterday, and I’m sorry, but it was like watching Russian propaganda,” Kelly told listeners. “There was nothing skeptical. It was all rah-rah cheerleading, yes, let’s go.”
Kelly, who spent over a decade at Fox News before departing in 2017, emphasized that while she supports the U.S. military and President Trump, her previous experiences as a news anchor have taught her to approach such situations with caution.
“I believe in President Trump, but there are serious reasons to just exercise a note of caution before we just get on the rah-rah train,” she explained. “I have done that enough times in my career as a Fox News anchor to have been embarrassed enough to know I’m going to stay on the yellow light for this.”
Her comments come amid increasing speculation about U.S. involvement in Venezuela, a nation that has faced years of economic crisis and political turmoil under President Nicolas Maduro. Venezuela possesses some of the world’s largest oil reserves, making it a strategically significant region where Russia, China, and Cuba have established strong footholds.
Kelly acknowledged the strategic importance of Venezuela but rejected what she called “bullsh*t about law enforcement” as justification for intervention. Instead, she pointed to the United States’ problematic history with regime change operations.
“I have seen what happens when you cheerlead, unabashedly, U.S. intervention in foreign countries thinking it’s for our good and for the national and the international good only to wind up with what we’ve called quagmire in places like Iraq, not to mention Libya,” she said.
The media figure expressed particular concern about potential American casualties in any military engagement. “Trump’s threat of putting ‘boots on the ground,'” she noted, raises serious questions about who would bear the burden of combat. “Whose boots? Because I have a 16-year-old boy, and I have a 12-year-old boy, and I have a 14-year-old girl, and a lot of my listeners have children too who are actually the ones who might have to fill the boots.”
Kelly also voiced alarm about President Trump’s increasing alignment with hawkish politicians like Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC), who has consistently advocated for aggressive foreign policy stances.
“The fact that Lindsey Graham is standing next to him, going, ‘Yes! Yes!’ is enough for me to know I don’t want it. I’m concerned,” Kelly remarked. “All of the neocons have been celebrating this whole thing like it’s Christmas in January, and that alone gives me pause. When Lindsey Graham is cheering, I’m not.”
Her critique represents a notable break from the generally supportive coverage Fox News has provided to the Trump administration. It also highlights growing divisions among conservatives regarding foreign policy approaches, particularly as the United States navigates complex geopolitical relationships in Latin America.
As the situation in Venezuela continues to develop, Kelly’s stance underscores the tensions between nationalist and interventionist factions within conservative media circles. Her comments also reflect broader public concerns about potential military engagements following decades of American involvement in conflicts across the Middle East and elsewhere.
“I think I speak for a lot of moms, and dads for that matter, when I say I’m staying in yellow territory until we know more,” Kelly concluded, “and I will not be joining the Fox News cheerleading brigade this time. I’ve been burned too many times.”
