A Reddit user recently shared information claiming that since February, Belarusian stations have increased their transmission power to reach deeper into Latvian territory. Perhaps most alarming is the assertion that these broadcasts now include Latvian-language news segments with apparent propagandistic messaging, specifically targeting listeners who “lack information in their own language.”

The report specifically identifies a Belarusian radio station broadcasting from Braslava, a town near the Latvian border city of Daugavpils, as the source of these transmissions. When contacted by local media outlet LA.lv, Latvia’s Council for Electronic Media explained the technical reasons behind this development. Experts note that radio signal propagation is particularly enhanced during cold weather conditions, which has likely contributed to the expanded reach of these Belarusian broadcasts. Additionally, the Council pointed to sophisticated technical equipment being employed to ensure quality reception across greater distances.

This situation highlights the ongoing information warfare in the Baltic region, where state-controlled media from Belarus and Russia frequently attempt to influence public opinion in neighboring countries.
