President Trump has firmly rejected claims that Israel influenced his decision to wage war against Iran, stating in a Monday Truth Social post that the outcome of the conflict “will be amazing.” The president emphasized that his determination to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons was reinforced by the October 7, 2023, Hamas terror attack against Israel.

“Israel never talked me into the war with Iran, the results of Oct. 7th, added to my lifelong opinion that IRAN CAN NEVER HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON, did,” Trump declared on the social media platform.

In the same post, Trump criticized media coverage and polling, claiming that “90% of what they say are lies and made up stories, and the polls are rigged, much as the 2020 Presidential Election was rigged.” He added that the results in Iran would be “amazing” and suggested that “regime change” could lead to “a great and prosperous future” for Iran if its new leaders act wisely.

The United States and Israel launched a coordinated military campaign against Iran earlier this year, conducting intensive airstrikes across the Islamic Republic for over a month. Although Trump announced a ceasefire recently, regional tensions remain high, with continuing military incidents threatening the fragile truce.

On Sunday, Trump issued a stern warning to Iran after reported violations of the ceasefire agreement. “Iran decided to fire bullets yesterday in the Strait of Hormuz — A Total Violation of our Ceasefire Agreement! Many of them were aimed at a French Ship, and a Freighter from the United Kingdom,” he stated on Truth Social.

The president outlined serious consequences should Iran reject current diplomatic proposals, threatening that “the United States is going to knock out every single Power Plant, and every single Bridge, in Iran” if they do not accept what he described as a “very fair and reasonable DEAL.” Trump added, “NO MORE MR. NICE GUY!” and declared it would be his “Honor to do what has to be done,” claiming such action “should have been done to Iran, by other Presidents, for the last 47 years.”

These tensions have already manifested in military action. On Sunday, U.S. forces intercepted an Iranian-flagged cargo vessel, the M/V Touska, in the north Arabian Sea. According to U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), the guided-missile destroyer USS Spruance issued multiple warnings over a six-hour period, informing the vessel it was violating the U.S. blockade. When the ship failed to comply, U.S. forces disabled its propulsion system by firing several rounds into the engine room using the destroyer’s 5-inch MK 45 Gun. Marines from the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit subsequently boarded the vessel, which remains in U.S. custody.

The confrontation comes amid broader regional instability following the October 7 attack by Hamas against Israel, which dramatically escalated tensions throughout the Middle East. The Hamas attack, which resulted in significant Israeli casualties, prompted an extensive Israeli military response in Gaza and has drawn in various regional powers, including Iran, which has long supported Hamas and other militant groups opposing Israel.

Trump’s firm stance against Iran represents a continuation of his administration’s “maximum pressure” approach toward the Islamic Republic, focused on preventing nuclear weapons development and countering Iranian regional influence. The president’s latest statements suggest a willingness to pursue even more aggressive military options should diplomatic efforts fail to achieve U.S. objectives.

As the situation continues to evolve, international observers remain concerned about the potential for further escalation that could destabilize the broader Middle East region, disrupt global shipping through the critical Strait of Hormuz, and impact global energy markets.
