Democratic Senator Praises Trump Administration’s Declassification of UFO Files

The Trump administration’s decision to declassify a significant batch of UFO and UAP (Unidentified Aerial Phenomena) files on Friday has garnered unexpected praise from across the political aisle, including from prominent Democratic Senator Kirsten Gillibrand of New York.

“Transparency is the only path to truth,” stated Gillibrand, who leads Senate Democrats’ campaign arm. “I am encouraged that the administration has finally heard my call and the call of millions of Americans to begin unsealing these files.”

The New York Democrat, who has long advocated for declassification of UAP-related documents, described the release as “another important step,” while emphasizing that “there is much more work to do.” She pledged to “continue to fight to ensure the administration finally meets its legal obligation to the American people.”

The newly declassified materials, available on the government website war.gov/UFO, include dozens of previously unseen images and videos related to unexplained aerial phenomena. Among the most intriguing records are documents detailing inexplicable lights and phenomena witnessed during NASA’s Apollo missions, specifically Apollo 12 in 1969 and Apollo 17 in 1972.

President Donald Trump had directed the Department of War and other federal agencies in February to declassify and publish files related to potential alien and extraterrestrial life. In announcing the release on his Truth Social platform, Trump emphasized his administration’s commitment to transparency on a subject where “previous Administrations have failed.”

“With these new Documents and Videos, the people can decide for themselves, ‘WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?'” Trump wrote. “Have Fun and Enjoy!”

Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard indicated that the administration would continue its declassification efforts in the coming months. Gabbard has previously discussed the possibility of alien life in podcast appearances, stating that her team is “continuing to look for the truth.”

Republican lawmakers were quick to celebrate the disclosure. Representative Anna Paulina Luna of Florida, who has been a vocal advocate for releasing UAP files, called it “a massive first step in the right direction.” Similarly, Representative Eric Burlison of Missouri described the move as “historic” and expressed hope that additional files would follow.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer offered more measured praise, notably omitting any mention of the Trump administration in his statement. “For decades, UFO disclosure has been a distant object — unidentified and unexplained,” Schumer said. “That’s starting to change. I’ll keep pushing until we land on the truth.”

The UAP file release represents part of a broader transparency initiative by the Trump administration, which also declassified records related to former President John F. Kennedy’s assassination and the 1937 disappearance of aviation pioneer Amelia Earhart last year.

Public and scientific interest in UAPs has intensified in recent years following confirmed Pentagon footage of unexplained aerial encounters by military pilots. The establishment of NASA’s independent UAP study team and congressional hearings on the matter have further legitimized discussion of these phenomena in official government contexts.

The declassified files may provide valuable insights for researchers studying these unexplained phenomena, while satisfying public curiosity about potential evidence of extraterrestrial activity that has been kept under wraps for decades.

As agencies continue to review and release additional documents, the move marks a significant shift toward greater government transparency on a topic long shrouded in secrecy and speculation.
