A House committee on Wednesday released a trove of 23,000 documents related to Jeffrey Epstein, primarily consisting of emails the convicted sex offender exchanged with wealthy associates, influential figures, and journalists over many years.

The release came after Democrats on the House Oversight Committee initially published just three emails in which Epstein mentioned former President Donald Trump. Republicans on the committee responded by making public the entire collection, accusing their Democratic colleagues of deliberately selecting messages out of context to cast Trump in a negative light.

Epstein, who served approximately one year in jail after pleading guilty in 2008 to soliciting prostitution from a minor, later reestablished relationships with prominent individuals across business, academia, and politics. He died by suicide in jail in 2019, a month after being arrested on sex trafficking charges.

Among the most scrutinized documents are communications regarding Trump and Epstein’s relationship. The two were friends for years before having a falling out, which occurred before allegations of Epstein’s abuse of underage girls became public. In a 2019 email to author Michael Wolff, who has written extensively about Trump, Epstein mentioned that Virginia Giuffre, one of his most prominent accusers, had worked at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club.

“She was the one who accused Prince Andrew,” Epstein wrote to Wolff. Giuffre, who died earlier this year, had claimed that Epstein’s longtime companion Ghislaine Maxwell recruited her from Mar-a-Lago to provide sexualized massages to Epstein.

In the same email, Epstein disputed Trump’s claim of banning him from Mar-a-Lago, stating he had never been a member. He added, “Of course he knew about the girls as he asked ghislaine to stop.” The precise meaning of this statement remains unclear.

Trump stated in July that he had banned Epstein from Mar-a-Lago because Epstein was “taking people who worked for me,” including Giuffre. Before her death, Giuffre maintained that she met Trump only once and that he was not among those who abused her, adding that she didn’t believe Trump was aware of Epstein’s misconduct with underage girls.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has responded to the release, claiming Democrats leaked select emails to “create a fake narrative to smear President Trump.”

The documents also contain numerous references to Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, formerly known as Prince Andrew. Giuffre had accused Epstein and Maxwell of forcing her into sexual encounters with the British royal beginning when she was 17, allegations that eventually cost Andrew his official titles and royal residence near Windsor Castle.

In a 2011 email to a reporter, Epstein attacked Giuffre’s credibility: “Yes she was on my plane, and yes she had her picture taken with Andrew as many of my employees have,” before calling her “a total liar.” Mountbatten-Windsor has consistently denied all allegations.

That same year, Epstein mentioned both Giuffre and Trump in a grammatically flawed email to Maxwell: “i want you to realize that that dog that hasn’t barked is trump.. virignia spent hours at my house with him,, he has never once been mentioned.” Maxwell responded, “I have been thinking about that.”

The documents also reveal Epstein’s strategy for responding to Giuffre’s claims, including her account of meeting former President Bill Clinton on Epstein’s Caribbean island. Epstein disputed this, writing: “Presidents at dinner on caribean islands. (clinton was never ever there, easy to confirm).”

Clinton has acknowledged traveling on Epstein’s private jet but stated through a spokesperson that he had no knowledge of Epstein’s crimes. No accusers, including Giuffre, have implicated Clinton in any wrongdoing.

Many documents highlight Epstein’s relationships with journalists, who sought his insights on financial markets, Trump, and other matters. He frequently offered to connect reporters with powerful individuals and repeatedly contested accusations against him.

In a 2016 email to a reporter, Epstein denied spending time with Clinton or former Vice President Al Gore on his island: “You can also add, fresh politcal juice by stating that Clinton was never on the island. I never met Al Gore. No diners on the island either, no matter how much detail has been in the press.”

The extensive document release provides unprecedented insight into Epstein’s communications and relationships while raising questions about the nature and extent of his connections to numerous high-profile individuals across politics, business, and society.
