Repeat Offender Arrested for Church Burglary in County Led by Soros-Backed Prosecutor
A 30-year-old man with an extensive criminal history was arrested last week for allegedly burglarizing a Virginia church in Fairfax County, where the judicial system is led by Commonwealth’s Attorney Steve Descano, a prosecutor backed by George Soros who is currently facing congressional scrutiny.
Akuamoa Boateng of Lorton was apprehended within 24 hours after police responded to a break-in at a church on Ox Road, just south of Fairfax city. Officers discovered damaged property and evidence of theft, including a stolen church vehicle that detectives tracked to the Hybla Valley area using license plate readers.
Upon arrest, Boateng was found with stolen items in the vehicle and charged with burglary, auto theft, larceny with intent to sell, felony destruction, and possession of Schedule I and II drugs. He is being held without bond.
Court records reveal Boateng’s troubling criminal past in the heavily Democratic county, including arrests for drug possession, obstruction, burglary, and more serious offenses such as malicious wounding—a felony similar to attempted murder that involves intentional serious bodily injury.
According to Virginia court records, Boateng has several upcoming preliminary hearings this summer for drug possession and petit larceny charges. In a previous case, he was found guilty of entering a structure to commit assault and battery but had four months of a 12-month sentence suspended.
Descano’s office confirmed that in 2023, Boateng “attacked both his parents in their home, causing injuries.” The prosecutor’s office emphasized that it takes family violence “extremely seriously” and had secured a protective order, jail time, and mental health treatment in that case.
“The defendant pled guilty to two counts of family assault and battery and was sentenced to 1 year with 6 months suspended for each charge and was subject to a two-year protective order,” the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office stated. “After being released, he violated his probation, the commonwealth prosecuted him, and 8 months of his suspended sentence was reimposed.”
Virginians for Safe Communities, a community watchdog group, claimed on social media that Boateng has accumulated dozens of other charges and had assault and gun possession charges dropped, according to court system data.
Descano, who was elected with significant financial backing from George Soros’s Justice and Public Safety PAC, is scheduled to appear before Congress on May 14. House Republicans are pressing him on the county’s immigration policies following a high-profile murder allegedly committed by a repeat illegal immigrant offender.
This congressional scrutiny comes in the wake of the murder of Stephanie Minter at a Mount Vernon-area bus stop last month. Minter’s family is now supporting a recall effort against Descano that could threaten his tenure as Commonwealth’s Attorney.
Descano has agreed to appear alongside Sheriff Stacey Kincaid as lawmakers examine the county’s prosecutorial policies, particularly concerning career criminals and illegal immigrants who commit subsequent crimes.
The Boateng case has drawn additional attention to Descano’s prosecutorial approach at a time when his office is already under intense scrutiny. Critics argue that his progressive policies are too lenient on repeat offenders, while supporters maintain that his office is pursuing a balanced approach to criminal justice reform.
County officials note that Boateng’s case demonstrates the challenges in managing repeat offenders within the criminal justice system, especially those with potential mental health issues. Descano’s office maintains they have pursued numerous cases against Boateng, resulting in multiple convictions, and are currently pursuing four additional cases against him.
As the congressional hearing approaches, this latest arrest has further intensified the debate over criminal justice reform and prosecutorial discretion in Fairfax County and beyond.
