House Drama Escalates as Rep. Nancy Mace Seeks Expulsion of GOP Colleague Cory Mills

Rep. Nancy Mace of South Carolina has filed a resolution to expel fellow Republican Rep. Cory Mills from Congress, marking the latest development in a series of high-profile House expulsion efforts. The motion, filed Monday evening, comes amid reports that Mills was drafting a similar resolution targeting Mace.

In her resolution, Mace accuses the Florida congressman of multiple serious offenses, including misrepresenting his military service, sexual misconduct, campaign finance violations, and improper involvement in federal contracts while serving in Congress.

“As a survivor, I will always stand up and right the wrongs of others,” Mace, who is currently running for governor of South Carolina, wrote on social media. “He is only coming after me because he knows he’s next.”

Mills has recently faced several scandals, including allegations that he threatened a former girlfriend with revenge porn after their relationship ended. He has also been the subject of an assault allegation that prompted a law enforcement response in Washington, D.C. last year. Despite these controversies, Mills denies any wrongdoing and has not faced criminal charges. He is seeking a third term in the House this November with President Donald Trump’s endorsement.

This is not the first clash between Mace and Mills. In November 2025, Mace attempted to censure Mills and remove him from two committee assignments, but the effort was overwhelmingly rejected. Instead, over 300 lawmakers voted to refer the matter to the House Ethics Committee, which is currently investigating Mills for domestic violence and misrepresenting his military service.

The House Ethics Committee released a statement Monday confirming its ongoing investigation into Mills, specifically mentioning “sexual misconduct and/or dating violence,” though no timeline for completing the probe was provided.

House GOP leadership, including Speaker Mike Johnson, has generally stood by Mills while urging lawmakers to allow the Ethics Committee process to run its course before taking punitive actions. Johnson recently told reporters he would be “looking into” the status of the Mills investigation.

This potential expulsion vote comes during a tumultuous period for the House. Democratic Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick of Florida is expected to face an expulsion vote as soon as Tuesday if she does not resign. The House Ethics Committee is scheduled to recommend disciplinary action against Cherfilus-McCormick for allegedly violating more than two dozen ethics rules. She also faces a separate federal criminal indictment.

Last week, Reps. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) and Tony Gonzales (R-Texas) both resigned to avoid looming expulsion votes following their own scandals. Swalwell faced accusations of sexual misconduct from at least five women, while Gonzales admitted to an extramarital affair with a staff member who later died by suicide.

For any expulsion resolution to succeed, it requires a two-thirds majority vote in the House, a threshold that may be difficult to reach in Mills’ case. While many lawmakers have expressed concern about the allegations against Mills, most have stopped short of calling for his removal.

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, a fellow Florida Republican, told Fox News Digital last week, “If there’s evidence of criminal misconduct and wrongdoing, I hold the same standard for every member of Congress, whether they’re a Democrat or Republican.”

As the House navigates these ethics controversies, the potential expulsion votes represent a rare use of one of Congress’s most severe disciplinary powers and highlight the increasingly fractious atmosphere in the chamber.
