Former First Lady Melania Trump’s senior adviser Marc Beckman has called for advertisers to boycott Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show following a controversial joke that referred to Mrs. Trump as an “expectant widow” days before the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.
“Why would ABC stand behind that? That’s the question. Furthermore, not just for the ABC brand, but why do the advertisers for Kimmel’s show stick with him,” Beckman said in a statement that characterized the situation as “strange.” Beckman, who serves as CEO of advertising agency DMA United, went further by stating that “Kimmel should be fired. ABC should terminate his employment.”
The controversy stems from a parody Kimmel performed of the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner, in which he made the “expectant widow” comment. While Kimmel has defended the skit as a joke about age difference rather than a call for assassination, Mrs. Trump condemned the comedian in strong terms.
“His monologue about my family isn’t comedy – his words are corrosive and deepens the political sickness within America,” the former first lady wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “People like Kimmel shouldn’t have the opportunity to enter our homes each evening to spread hate.” She also labeled Kimmel a “coward” and explicitly called on ABC to “take a stand.”
Beckman framed the issue not as a matter of free speech but as a branding concern. “Why would ABC and the parent company, Disney, want to be affiliated with an individual that’s entering all of our homes, America’s homes, night after night [in] our living rooms, our bedrooms, and spewing such divisive, vile political rhetoric?” he questioned. “It leads to nowhere good.”
In supporting his position, Beckman cited Wall Street Journal reporting based on data from the Center for Strategic and International Studies, which indicated that left-wing terrorist attacks and plots outnumbered right-wing ones in 2025 for the first time in more than 30 years. “The trend is that from left to right, political violence is greater than that from right to left,” he said.
This is not Kimmel’s first brush with controversy. Last year, the ABC host faced backlash over remarks about Charlie Kirk’s killing that critics claimed mischaracterized the suspect and politicized the case. The incident led to a brief suspension from the airwaves before Kimmel returned with an apology.
Despite the ongoing media controversy, Beckman emphasized that the former first lady remains focused on her substantive work. “She pays attention to what people are saying in the media, but she doesn’t care so much. I think what she’s focused on is how could she continue to create great achievements for the country,” he said.
Mrs. Trump has recently leveraged her position to expand children’s access to technology and education, including hosting the inaugural “Fostering the Future Together” global summit in March, which brought together representatives from 45 countries.
“She’s focused on American children, American families, taking care of the nation as first lady. She’s not going to really care about all the gossip, lies and innuendo,” Beckman added.
The controversy highlights the increasingly fraught intersection of comedy, politics, and media in an era of heightened political polarization. As calls for Kimmel’s dismissal intensify from Trump allies, the incident raises questions about the boundaries of political humor and the responsibilities of broadcast networks in moderating content.
Fox News Digital reported reaching out to ABC and representatives for Kimmel but had not received responses at the time of publication.

This seems like a complex issue with valid arguments on both sides. On one hand, the ‘expectant widow’ comment was in poor taste. But on the other, it was meant as a joke about age difference, not an assassination threat. Curious to see how this plays out.
This seems like another chapter in the ongoing debate around the boundaries of political comedy and free speech. It will be worth following to see if any real impacts materialize for Kimmel or if this blows over in the news cycle.
The former First Lady’s strong response and her adviser’s escalating criticism definitely add fuel to the fire here. I’m curious to hear Kimmel’s side of the story and whether he will address this controversy directly on his show.
This seems like a textbook case of political polarization and the growing divides in the US. Each side is likely to interpret this through their own ideological lens, making a resolution or compromise difficult. I wonder if cooler heads will prevail or if this will escalate further.
Interesting to see this escalation from Melania Trump’s adviser. While political comedy can certainly be divisive, it’s concerning to see calls for boycotts and termination over a controversial joke. I wonder if this will have any impact on Kimmel’s show or advertisers.
I’m not surprised to see Melania Trump’s team taking such a strong stance. They’ve consistently pushed back against any perceived slights or criticism directed at the former First Family. It will be interesting to see if this gains any real traction.
