In the wake of the recent shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, Democratic Representative Jasmine Crockett of Texas has drawn attention for posting what appear to be conflicting messages about the incident on her social media accounts.

The shooting occurred at the Washington Hilton when gunman Cole Tomas Allen of California breached a security checkpoint armed with guns and knives. A Secret Service agent was shot in the chest during the incident but was protected by a bulletproof vest. In response, the Justice Department has charged Allen with attempting to assassinate the president, transporting firearms and ammunition across state lines with intent to commit a felony, and discharging a firearm during a violent crime.

President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, administration officials, members of Congress, and media representatives were in attendance at the high-profile event. Following the gunfire, Trump and other attendees were quickly evacuated from the area, and the suspect was apprehended.

On her official X and Threads accounts, Rep. Crockett, who recently lost a Democratic primary bid for U.S. Senate, posted a message condemning political violence, stating: “The political violence is unacceptable and must stop.” She added, “I am grateful that everyone attending tonight’s WHCD is safe.”

However, on her campaign Threads account “Jasmine For US,” the congresswoman struck a markedly different tone, questioning: “Has there ever been a president have this many close ‘attempts’ on their life?” She continued with speculation, “Maybe it’s lax gun laws, maybe it’s lack of mental health funding, or maybe it’s fake… who knows.”

This apparent contradiction has raised eyebrows amid heightened concerns about political violence and security for public officials. Fox News Digital has reached out to Rep. Crockett’s office for comment on the discrepancy. The outlet also contacted House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries’ office seeking comment on the matter.

The incident has quickly become politicized in other ways as well. In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, President Trump and his allies began advocating for his proposed White House ballroom, suggesting that such a facility would improve security at presidential events.

Security experts note, however, that the dinner was organized by the White House Correspondents’ Association rather than the White House itself, and hosted approximately twice as many guests as the proposed ballroom could accommodate, calling into question its relevance to this particular security situation.

The proposed $400 million White House ballroom project has faced legal challenges, with a judge repeatedly halting construction on grounds that it lacks required congressional approval. The court has allowed exceptions only for “actions strictly necessary to ensure the safety and security of the White House and its grounds.”

This shooting comes at a time of increasing concern about political violence in the United States. Federal law enforcement agencies have reported rising threats against public officials across the political spectrum in recent years, creating challenges for security teams tasked with protecting government leaders and high-profile events.

The incident also highlights ongoing debates about gun control and mental health funding in America, issues that remain deeply divisive in Congress and across the country. As investigations into the shooting continue, questions about security protocols at major political events and the tone of political discourse around such incidents remain at the forefront of public discussion.

Neither Rep. Crockett nor Democratic leadership has yet offered clarification on the contradictory social media messages regarding the assassination attempt.
