In a tragic incident on U.S. Highway 20 in Deschutes County, Oregon, two people were killed when their Subaru Outback collided with a jackknifed semi-truck on November 24. The crash claimed the lives of William Micah Carter, who was driving the Subaru, and passenger Jennifer Lynn Lower. Kumar’s semi-truck and trailer reportedly jackknifed around 9:30 p.m., blocking both lanes of the highway before the collision occurred.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has placed a detainer on Kumar, who is currently being held at the Deschutes County jail. Because Oregon operates as a sanctuary state with limitations on cooperation with federal immigration authorities, ICE stated it “will make all necessary efforts to bring Kumar into custody should he be released.”
DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin addressed the incident, saying, “Our prayers are with William and Jennifer’s families. Rajinder Kumar, a criminal illegal alien from India, was released into our country under the Biden administration and issued a commercial driver’s license by Gavin Newsom’s Department of Motor Vehicles.”
McLaughlin questioned, “How many more senseless tragedies must take place before sanctuary politicians stop allowing illegal aliens to dangerously operate semi-trucks on America’s roads?” She added that under current DHS Secretary Kristi Noem, “ICE will continue its efforts to get illegal alien truck drivers off America’s highways.”
