Former Vice President Kamala Harris’ congressional endorsee Dan Koh faces questions over his $1.3 million Washington, D.C. home while campaigning for Massachusetts’ 6th District seat.

Koh, who served in several senior positions in the Biden White House, is running in a competitive race to replace Democratic Rep. Seth Moulton, who has launched a Senate bid. Despite campaigning in suburban Massachusetts, property records reveal Koh and his wife purchased an expensive home near Capitol Hill in 2022, raising questions about his connection to the district he seeks to represent.

Records from the D.C. Office of Tax and Revenue confirm the couple’s ownership of the Washington property. They also own an $810,000 home in Andover, Massachusetts, which falls within the boundaries of the 6th Congressional District. The Massachusetts property was purchased in 2019, according to the North Essex Registry of Deeds.

The Massachusetts Republican Party has seized on the dual-home situation. Amy Carnevale, chair of the state GOP, criticized Koh’s residential arrangement, suggesting it follows what she called a troubling pattern among Massachusetts Democrats.

“Living full-time in D.C. with a no-show house in Massachusetts seems to be a family tradition amongst MassDems,” Carnevale told Fox News Digital. She drew parallels to Massachusetts Senator Ed Markey, whom she referred to as the “Senator from Chevy Chase,” alleging he rarely visits his home state.

“Dan Koh is now looking to follow in that tradition. What a shame for actual residents of Massachusetts who deserve better,” Carnevale added.

In response to these allegations, a spokesperson for Koh’s campaign defended the candidate’s residency status, stating, “Dan lives full-time at his home in Andover, which he and his wife have owned for over 6 years.” The spokesperson explained that Koh “lived in D.C. during his time as a senior official in the White House during the Biden-Harris administration with his family.”

However, tax documents available through the D.C. Office of Tax and Revenue indicate that as of August, Koh and his wife still maintain ownership of their Washington property.

The congressional race has garnered national attention, particularly after Harris endorsed Koh on October 28. In her endorsement, the former vice president highlighted their previous work together in the White House, saying, “During our time in the White House, I saw Dan’s steadfast drive to make life better — and more affordable — for working people.”

Harris praised Koh’s effectiveness, stating, “He knows how to get things done, will be the fighter you deserve, and is ready on day one.” She concluded by encouraging voters in the 6th District to support his campaign.

Koh’s campaign emphasized that he is among the first candidates Harris has endorsed in the 2025-26 election cycle, signaling “the critical importance of electing a strong, effective Democratic leader to represent the 6th District.”

The endorsement represents part of Harris’s continued political engagement following her presidential campaign. Since leaving office, the former vice president has been selective with her political endorsements, making her backing of Koh particularly significant for his campaign.

For his part, Koh expressed gratitude for Harris’s support, stating, “I am honored that Vice President Harris has endorsed our campaign for Massachusetts’ 6th District.” He added, “I personally witnessed the Vice President’s tireless dedication to the American people every day in the administration.”

The property question adds another dimension to what is already shaping up to be a competitive race for the congressional seat. Residency issues have increasingly become points of contention in congressional campaigns across the country, as voters and opponents scrutinize candidates’ genuine connections to the districts they seek to represent.

The Massachusetts 6th District race will be closely watched as Democrats aim to maintain their presence in the House while Republicans look for potential pickup opportunities in the 2026 midterm elections.

This is certainly an interesting development in the race. While owning multiple homes isn’t necessarily illegal, it does raise questions about Koh’s connection to the 6th District and his commitment to the local community. Voters will likely want to see a strong, transparent explanation from Koh on this issue.

Interesting that a Harris-backed candidate is facing this kind of scrutiny over his living situation. Seems like a potential political vulnerability that the opposition is hoping to exploit. Will be curious to see how Koh responds and whether it impacts his chances in the race.

I’m curious to hear Koh’s explanation for this. While there may be legitimate reasons, the optics aren’t great and it could undermine his claim to be a true local representative. Voters will likely want to see a strong connection to the 6th District.

This is an interesting development in the race. While owning multiple homes isn’t necessarily disqualifying, the optics of Koh’s living situation could be a problem if he can’t effectively explain and justify it to voters. Transparency will be key.

It’s understandable that voters would want a congressional representative who is fully engaged with and embedded in the local community. This dual-home arrangement raises questions about Koh’s priorities and commitment to the 6th District. Transparency on this issue could be important.

  7. As a Harris-endorsed candidate, Koh’s dual-home situation is certainly notable. While there may be legitimate reasons, the optics aren’t great and could undermine his claims of being a true local representative. Voters will want to see a convincing explanation from Koh on this issue.

  8. William Thomas on

As someone who is supposed to be a local representative, Koh’s dual-home situation is certainly worth scrutinizing. Voters deserve a candidate who is fully engaged with and committed to the district, not someone who is splitting time between DC and Massachusetts.

  9. Robert Z. Johnson on

This raises some valid questions about Koh’s connection to the district he’s running to represent. While owning homes in both DC and Massachusetts isn’t illegal, it does seem to undermine his claim of being a local representative. Voters should look closely at his ties to the 6th District.
