In the wake of a fatal shooting involving an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent in Minneapolis, Wisconsin Congressman Derrick Van Orden reported that an anti-ICE demonstrator attempted to force entry into his Eau Claire office, prompting federal authorities to investigate the incident as potential domestic terrorism.
The Republican lawmaker detailed the frightening encounter in a social media post, stating that “an individual fueled by anti-ICE rhetoric” targeted his office just hours after the Minneapolis incident, “shouting slurs, pounding on our doors, and attempting to force his way inside.”
Grace Kim, Van Orden’s communications director, told reporters that office surveillance footage captured a man banging on the door and calling staff members “Nazis.” Photos shared by the congressman’s office showed a vehicle allegedly belonging to the suspect parked outside, bearing handwritten messages including “YOUR TURN!,” “AMERICA BENDS HER KNEE TO NO KINGS,” and profanity directed at ICE.
According to Kim, Van Orden spoke with FBI Director Kash Patel Thursday morning to report the incident as domestic terrorism. As of Thursday afternoon, no arrests had been made in connection with the incident.
The confrontation at Van Orden’s office follows Wednesday’s fatal shooting of 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good by an ICE agent in Minneapolis. Video footage from that incident appeared to show Good driving toward an agent who was standing in front of her vehicle before he opened fire into the front of her SUV. Authorities claim Good was attempting to hit officers with her car during an immigration operation.
The Minneapolis shooting sparked significant protests and drew condemnation from several prominent Democrats, including New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, some of whom characterized the agent’s actions as “murder.”
Van Orden, a Navy SEAL veteran, has attributed both incidents to what he describes as inflammatory rhetoric from Democrats regarding immigration enforcement. “This is the direct result of Democrats’ violent rhetoric,” he wrote. “It must stop now.”
In a separate statement, the congressman suggested that political messaging had contributed to Good’s death, asking, “What would drive a 37-year-old suburban woman to violently attack federal law enforcement?” He added: “This woman never had to die. The left’s constant demonization of our officers, calling them ‘American Gestapo’ and vile slurs, is brainwashing and fueling this type of radicalization.”
The incidents come amid increasingly heated national debate over immigration enforcement policies and practices. ICE operations have become flashpoints in the broader immigration controversy, with critics calling for significant reforms or even abolition of the agency, while supporters argue its work is essential for national security and border integrity.
The FBI has not yet publicly commented on the investigation into the incident at Van Orden’s office.
These developments highlight the increasingly volatile nature of the immigration debate in America, where rhetoric and policy disputes can quickly escalate into confrontations and violence. Law enforcement agencies across the country have reported increased threats against officials and facilities involved in immigration enforcement, raising concerns about officer safety and operational effectiveness.
For communities with significant immigrant populations, these incidents have heightened tensions and uncertainty about future enforcement actions. Advocacy groups have called for calm while pushing for greater transparency in how federal immigration operations are conducted.
The FBI’s classification of the Wisconsin incident will likely determine the resources dedicated to the investigation and potential charges that could be brought against the suspect if apprehended.

While I don’t agree with the congressman’s political views, I believe strongly in the rule of law and the need to protect elected officials and their staff from acts of violence or intimidation. Attempting to forcibly enter an office is completely unacceptable, regardless of one’s political affiliations. I hope the FBI investigation leads to swift justice.
Well said. Disagreement is healthy in a democracy, but it must be expressed through lawful and nonviolent means. I’m glad the authorities are taking this incident seriously and hope it serves as a deterrent to anyone considering similar actions.
As someone with a keen interest in mining and energy issues, I’m concerned to see this type of incident occurring. While passionate political views are understandable, resorting to threats and intimidation tactics is never the answer. I hope the FBI investigation provides clarity and that the perpetrator is held accountable.
This is a concerning incident that highlights the tense political climate and potential for violence. While freedom of speech and protest are important, any attempts to forcibly enter an office or threaten staff cross a line. I hope the authorities conduct a thorough investigation and hold the perpetrator accountable.
Agreed. Domestic terrorism is a serious threat that should not be tolerated, regardless of political affiliation. It’s critical that elected officials and their staff can feel safe in their workplaces.
This is a troubling development that underscores the need for elected officials and their staff to feel safe in their workplaces. Regardless of one’s political leanings, trying to forcibly enter an office is unacceptable and should be investigated as a potential act of domestic terrorism. As a supporter of robust democratic discourse, I’m troubled by reports of an individual trying to forcibly enter a congressional office. Even if motivated by strong political views, such actions are unacceptable and undermine the foundations of our system. I hope the FBI investigation provides clarity on the incident.
Absolutely. Resorting to threats and intimidation, rather than civil dialogue, is a dangerous path. I’m glad the congressman took the appropriate steps to alert the authorities and hope this leads to accountability.
