Suspect in Attack on U.S. Attorney Alina Habba’s Office Captured

Federal authorities have apprehended the suspect wanted in connection with the attack on U.S. Attorney Alina Habba’s office in Newark, New Jersey. Attorney General Pam Bondi announced Saturday that Keith Michael Lisa, 51, is now in custody following a joint effort by the FBI, U.S. Marshals Service, and Homeland Security Investigations.

“No one will get away with threatening or intimidating our great U.S. Attorneys or the destruction of their offices,” Bondi stated in a social media post confirming the arrest.

The incident occurred on November 12 at the Peter W. Rodino Federal Building in Newark, where Habba maintains her office as the Acting U.S. Attorney for New Jersey. According to the FBI, Lisa initially attempted to enter the building while carrying a baseball bat. After security denied his entry, Lisa discarded the weapon, returned to the building, and proceeded to damage government property in the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

A federal arrest warrant was issued for Lisa on Thursday in the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey. He faces charges of possession of a dangerous weapon in a federal facility and depredation of federal property.

“We got him,” Habba responded following news of the arrest. “This Justice Department under Attorney General Pam Bondi and our federal partners will not tolerate any acts of intimidation or violence toward law enforcement. Now justice will handle him.”

Habba had previously made it clear she would not be intimidated, stating after the incident: “I will not be intimidated by radical lunatics for doing my job.”

The FBI described Lisa as approximately 6 feet 3 inches tall, weighing between 200 and 230 pounds, with known ties to New York City and Mahwah, New Jersey. Authorities had warned the public that he should be considered dangerous.

This incident comes amid increasing concerns about threats against public officials and law enforcement across the United States. Bondi highlighted this troubling pattern in her initial announcement about the attack on Thursday, noting that “this is unfortunately becoming a trend as radicals continue to attack law enforcement agents around the country.”

The attack on Habba’s office represents a concerning escalation in threats against federal officials. As Acting U.S. Attorney and Special Attorney to the United States Attorney General, Habba oversees all federal criminal prosecutions and civil matters involving the federal government in New Jersey. She supervises a staff of approximately 155 federal prosecutors and 130 support personnel across offices in Newark, Camden, and Trenton.

Habba was sworn in as the interim U.S. Attorney for New Jersey in March 2025 during a ceremony in the Oval Office at the White House. Her appointment placed her in a key position within the Department of Justice, responsible for handling significant federal cases throughout the state.

The swift apprehension of Lisa demonstrates the coordinated response capabilities of federal law enforcement agencies. Details regarding the circumstances of Lisa’s capture or his potential motivations have not yet been released as the investigation continues.

Federal authorities typically treat attacks on government facilities and officials with the highest priority, particularly those involving U.S. Attorneys who serve as the chief federal law enforcement officers in their respective districts.
