DOJ Touts First-Year Accomplishments Under Trump, Claims End to Political Weaponization
The Department of Justice released a statement Wednesday highlighting what it describes as significant accomplishments during President Donald Trump’s first year back in office, asserting that the agency has reversed course from what it characterized as political weaponization under the Biden administration.
In a statement posted on X, the DOJ claimed it has successfully “turned around” the agency and restored fairness and law enforcement priorities. “Instead of keeping Americans safe, the Biden DOJ weaponized its power against political opponents: conservatives, parents, pro-lifers, Christians, and most of all, President Trump,” the statement read.
According to the Justice Department, President Trump inherited a justice system “in chaos” and subsequently charged the department with restoring “integrity, accountability and equal justice under the law.”
“In 2025, the DOJ returned to its core mission: upholding the rule of law, vigorously prosecuting criminals, and keeping the American people safe,” the department wrote.
The announcement comes amid ongoing legal challenges faced by the Trump administration. The Justice Department has recently come under scrutiny for missing a statutory deadline to release documents related to Jeffrey Epstein under the Epstein Files Transparency Act, potentially exposing the agency to legal action.
In its statement, the DOJ outlined ten “wins” achieved since January 20, when Trump took office. Among these accomplishments, the department highlighted efforts to pursue major fraud cases, particularly in Minnesota, which it described as “rife with fraud.”
The fraud investigation in Minnesota has resulted in charges against 98 people, including 85 individuals identified as being of Somali descent, for Medicaid fraud and related program violations. To date, the DOJ reports 64 convictions have been secured in these cases.
The statement also detailed actions taken to roll back policies that allegedly targeted conservatives and parents, reduce nationwide crime rates, increase law enforcement presence in major cities, seize record amounts of illegal drugs, and secure favorable rulings at the Supreme Court.
FBI Director Kash Patel reinforced these claims on Wednesday, writing on X that the bureau is actively working to restore public trust in federal law enforcement. “Dismantling public corruption is a top priority of our leadership team here — we’ve worked day and night on that mission and will continue to do so until justice is done,” he stated.
The Justice Department’s shift in priorities reflects the Trump administration’s law-and-order approach to governance, which has been a cornerstone of the president’s political platform. Critics of the previous administration have long alleged that law enforcement agencies were being used as political tools, a charge the Biden administration consistently denied.
Legal experts note that such dramatic shifts in departmental priorities between administrations are becoming increasingly common in the polarized political landscape. While Trump supporters view these changes as necessary corrections to perceived bias, critics argue they represent politicization in the opposite direction.
The current DOJ leadership has signaled an intensification of enforcement actions planned for 2026, promising an escalation of arrests, court victories, and action “against those who threaten the safety and well-being of the American people.”
This repositioning of the Justice Department comes as law enforcement agencies nationwide grapple with public trust issues and political pressures. The department’s emphasis on fraud cases, particularly those involving immigrant communities, aligns with broader immigration and crime policies championed by the Trump administration.
As these policies continue to take shape, legal observers will be closely monitoring their implementation and impact on equal justice principles that the department claims to be restoring.
